Shipping jewelry overseas

Does anyone have any input on sending a piece of jewelry from the US to the UK? How does one insure for a specific amount (as an individual and not a business entity) to someone else without them incurring duty as it is not a commercial exchange. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can avoid the duty, even if it is a gift, above a certain value! I'd check on the UK customs website for sure. I have bought many things from the US and they have mostly been shipped, insured by the likes of FedEx or USPS.
