Shipping Jewelry from U.S. to Canada?

Okay guys help me out, I have someone on IG looking to buy some jewelry from me but she is in Canada. She had actually messaged me before and I told her I don't ship internationally but I'd really like to make this happen if there is a safe way to do so.

I would need to ship these items fully insured. I know this has been asked before but not sure if anything has changed with Canada Post and or if I should be looking at another shipping service?

I have always received everything I ever ordered from the US. The only place where something got lost along the way, then was delivered much later was from the UK. As long as there is tracking on both sides of the border, it should be okay, although right now things are taking longer than normal. Duty is charged upon delivery, so that's nothing to do with you.

Thanks @lyra, is there any restriction you're aware of on insurance? I won't even consider sending this if he can't be insured.

@YadaYadaYada Sorry, I don't know about that part. I've mostly bought off of Ebay and not worried about it. Hopefully someone else can tell you.

I have shipped USPS registered to Canada. I was shipping back a sapphire to a vendor and I insured it for the purchase price which was over $3,000. I had no problem and I told the post office what it was.

You need to read it through carefully but basically anything jewelry/gemstone must be mailed via USPS First Class International with Registered Mail.



Unfortunately, Registered Mail insurance is limited to $41.54.



The Post Office shipping clerk may accept your parcel and allow you to pay for insurance, but if you were to put in a claim for a lost parcel, USPS would point to this document and decline your claim.

I have shipped to Canada but only items with a value under $250 or so ...

If you have a high-ticket item, perhaps you could work through an intermediary like whichever vendor you originally bought it from? Or an independent appraiser (costs money and time I know)?

@marymm, thank you for linking the information, this is going to be a no go then since the value would be too high. Also I swore I wouldn't ship internationally after shipping a ring to Singapore, it got there but I lost lots of sleep!

Hmmm, I have Fedex nearby, all told I need to send around $1700 in jewelry, I know that is not a huge amount but if it goes missing it will feel like it!
