I need help interpreting a diamond I'm looking at online. Very modest budget, and this is a good price for me.
Here's the Stats and i-scope image, please let me know what you think.
Specifically, why are the arrows white instead of black in the i-scope? Can I trust a dealer who promises that it's actually eye clean? Is there anything else I should be considering?

Yes, Only GIA or AGS graded stones.

DF is right here.

Also - the image you see with the 'white arrows' is actually a photo taken through a Hearts & Arrow viewer and is not an Idealscope image.

Not an idealscope. Hearts and arrows viewer. Only shows you pattern. Not performance. Performance is what matters.

As pointed out - the photo is not an Idealscope. As far as trusting a dealer who promises that it is eye-clean. I would say yes, that is typically reliable - but I might hesitate if it is a dealer who told you that a Hearts & Arrows Image is an Idealscope image. :eh:

Idealscope - You will see black as obstruction (the light normally blocked by the viewers head - the light directly above and around 30 degrees from above). Red in the IS is light that is coming from 0 degrees (the horizon) up to about 75 degrees - this is the area from which the diamond will gather lights in most situations. If you see white in an IS image - that is leakage, places where light is passing through the facets rather than being reflected.

H&A - The Hearts and Arrows viewer is designed to show symmetry. This is not so much about light performance as much as how the internal facets (acting as mirrors) align with one another. The H&A viewer demonstrates light from above so what you see as Red (or blue or sometimes another color) is actually coming through the filament that covers the side of the viewer. It does not reliably predict performance, but it does show the symmetry of the cut.
