I am posting this for a friend for is considering upgrading her diamond and was wondering whether or not the shape of the stone effects the price. She has a round H&A she''s ''bored'' with. It''s a 3/4 carat solitare (plain-- but lovely, I think, six prong setting). She wants another shape/ cut diamond at 1.5is carats. Generic obviously, not branded shape/ cut.

All I could tell her is that I *think* old mine cuts were lower in price....

Do you all mind filling us in? Inquiring minds want to know.

Round brilliant diamonds are usually more expensive than most other "regular" cuts, all else being equal. By regular, I mean cuts like a princess or marquise, not branded cuts.

*Not Gypsy answering*

What are two or three of the least expensive non-branded cuts? Thank you for your help.

Hmm, I don''t have any cold hard facts but I would guess that the marquise is one of the least expensive cuts, because it is not very much in style right now. Perhaps someone else will know more.

I have read that ovals are 10-20% less than rounds of the same size because they aren''t as much in demand.

We were just on Dimend Scaasi doing diamond searches... it looks like Radiants are very affordable as well. Personally *I* (Gypsy) don''t like these... but my friend wants to go take a look in person at them. I think one with a 1.00 length/ width ratio might be nice... but then, I''m very partial to square stones.

THANKS ALL.
