Shane Co. Bad??

I have read many negative posts on this forum about shane co. I recently purchased a 2.26 caret diamond from them and it is spectacular! many of the comments have been about how many of shanes stones are not GIA certified. So what? The grading of diamonds is subjective. I went to many jewlers and even visited with a wholesaler from Israel whom a friend hooked me up with. Shane Co . had diamonds that were "rated" lower quality in terms of color and clarity than some of the independent jewelers I shopped but the shane stone i purchased actually looked better (H,i1) than many E VS1,2 and SI''s that were GIA Certified.

The bottom line is I looked at more than 75 stones and took notes on each one of them. Shane co . won my business with a fair price on a great stone.

some other negative comments have been about the sales people. who cares if they don''t know everything about diamonds? i would rather be well informed and schooled by various jewelers and personal experience than by just one sales person.
all these guys are like used car salesmen anyway. buyer beware.
As long as you are happy with your stone -that is all that matters.

I called them and asked them if they had any cushions in stock and the person on the phone said what? so I explained... she said she''d never heard of a cushion cut. She passed the phone off to someone who told me they don''t even carry them LOL I seriously doubt they''ll have the OMC I want LOL

I think places like that are fine, most women and men I know really don''t *care* how their diamond performs. They either want a symbol or they want size. Good stones are to be had anywhere, you armed yourself with info and made the right choice for yourself. I think the problem many have with stores like that is that the diamond reps at the store do NOT help to arm people with the info they need for good cut.

BTW the Shane Company BAD thread is what led me to PS. My husband was insisting we needed to go to shane co and so I googled them... pricescope thread was #2 on the list LOL I clicked it first I think after this obsession and the idea that it won''t be completed in quite some time makes him wish we''d just gone there and been done. Too bad for him! lol

I’m glad you’re happy. Shane is a fine company. Can you give us pictures and tell us about your purchase?

I missed the part in that article where the author describes GIA as unreliable. Could you please point that part out? That looks to me like a summary of a widely reported scandal from a few years ago involving some former GIA employees and customers conspiring together to mis-grade a few very expensive stones. Does this really make the entire lab less reliable in your mind than someone who describes himself or herself as a ‘wholesaler from Israel’ but who is presumably happy to make a retail sale to a stranger?

By all means, GIA grading does not mean a stone is beautiful, nor does it even mean that others will agree with their grading opinions, but their reputation for consistent and independent reporting is solid and well deserved despite the scandal you mentioned.
