IM- All I am saying is that by posting something like that in this thread it implies to many people that GOG WAS doing something shady, which they were not. It appeared that you were responding to the OP''s posts, not someone else''s, because imdanny was talking about the situation at hand with the OP. It can just be a problem for vendors to have their reputation on the line with a misleading post about something that doesn''t apply to this situation. That''s all.

So quoting imdanny and putting this in my post wasn''t enough:

"I''m not saying that is in fact what happened in this case -- it doesn''t appear to be IMO."

AND

"PLEASE NOTE -- I''m not saying this happened, I''m just saying that things are more complex than imdanny is claiming. I''m actually looking forward to working with GOG in the coming months!"

I was just trying to be informative should something like this ever ACTUALLY happen in the future.

IM- Don''t worry about it. We are obviously not on the same page and that is ok.

Agree with most of the comments here.. purchased and returned. This scenario can happen not just with diamonds, but with shoes and bags too!

Haven't heard back from the original poster.. troll?

ditto. I also think the title of the thread should be changed to something like 'question about GOG' or 'question about GOG's sale's policy' or something that doesn't directly accuse them of being unethical which can be misleading in the search results.

re: the comments personally directed at Surfgirl. I am one of those who is not offended at all by her directness and humor and trust the Moderators to determine what is and isn't appropriate. She's an asset to this board IMO and for those who do find her offending it's pretty ease to just skim and skip her post.

I agree with the above on all counts.

i heartily agree as well! SG has been nothing but helpful in all of the posts that i have read of hers and i definitely appreciate her humor. she is very down-to-earth and has alot of great advice, diamonds and otherwise.

re: OP's post - i have not worked with GOG but i have never never seen a negative or even close to negative post about them in all of the time i have been lurking and posting (over 6months now).

i know that i have seen many times posts about a diamond being purchased and then returned for whatever reason. again, this is one of the great things about the vendors that people recommend here, they have a return policy. since it is usually a substantial amount of money people are spending via the internet, the return policy is a way for the vendors to make customers feel comfortable with buying online cause the customers can always return the diamond if, when they get it, the diamond is not the one for them.

and i work with databases, and let me tell you, keeping them all in sync in realtime is very very difficult to do, especially in such a dynamic field as the diamond business. it is actually impossible to keep them synced in real time. you have to remember that vendors from all over are calling in diamonds from here and there and one second it can be available and the next it's not but lots of time one won't know until they actually contact the vendor who has the diamond. (i don't know exactly how it works but this is my best guess based on my experience with talking to vendors and reading PS posts).

so, give GOG the benefit of the doubt and i'm sure you will end up with a beautiful diamond nevermind A+++ service!

I too have not personally dealt with GOG, however a friend of mine is looking for a diamond and I have recommended that he go to GOG and thats just based on the awesome reviews I have seen here.

I just wanted to chime in and add, although I haven''t personally purchased from GOG, I would have no hesitation in doing so.

Even though it seems like this topic has been fully discussed, I just want to reiterate what others have said--John and his staff at GOG went above and beyond for me...to the point where they held my stone for almost a month based simply upon my word that I was definitely going to purchase...does that sound like a business that would ever act in a "shady" manner? I think when people first start out with their search they have heard all the horror stories and convince themselves that every jeweler is out to get them...sounds like an impulse post that the person probably regrets....

simplysplindid, MrsSalvo, and Moonwater, the 3rd post on this after the moderator told us to stay on topic. If you trust the moderator so much then why don't you listen to the moderator.

Make that 4.

So by "IM" you mean him, not me!

Iron Mike, you and I wouldn''t see much the same way, so there is no reason to even go there. I read your "Does Tiffany cost that much more" and I don''t think I agree with anything you said. As to this thread- I stated my opinion. I did not "claim" anything.

Right, and unless the OP can prove that that happened OR EVEN COME UP WITH A REASONABLE ARGUMENT THAT THAT HAPPENED, then I think that what GOG (or anyone) does in terms of selling, and taking back their merchandise is their own business. The OP''s post was slanderous, if you want to get all legal about it.

Unfortunately, your opinion was incorrect. When there''s black-and-white law on a topic there isn''t much room for opinions. That''s why I cleared it up for people who may one day find themselves in a similar position. It doesn''t matter if you or I would ever agree on anything -- this wasn''t a matter of opinion and in this case you were just incorrect.

Also, if anything it would libelous (not slander -- slander is an oral statement). Libel has to be an untrue statement. The OP just stated facts and then gave his opinion that the sale was "shady." For someone who doesn''t know how these transactions typically work I think that''s understandable.

That said, I can''t wait to buy from GOG...

I love their rep on this site and I love their informative website!

This is really confusing...two people who could be called IM and they are both blue. Maybe one of you can change your avatar!

I clarified my opinion HERE "Right, and unless the OP can prove that that happened OR EVEN COME UP WITH A REASONABLE ARGUMENT THAT THAT HAPPENED, then I think that what GOG (or anyone) does in terms of selling, and taking back their merchandise SUCH AS IN THIS CASE- NOT MEANING IN EVERY POSSIBLE SCENARIO IRONMIKE CAN CONCOCT is their own business". For you to claim that my opinion which I am perfectly entitled to have is wrong after I have clarified it for you argumentative.

I will. Give me a few minutes to figure it out.

For the love of all that''s holy, mods please lock this thread.

My opinion of the topic on the table is that the OP clearly jumped to conclusions. If one buys something it's a done deal. If an item is not bought, there is no contract, and no reason for complaint IMO.

Is this whole thing your opinion?

See, the first sentence is an opinion. It's one I happen to agree with. The second and third sentences may be your opinion of how things should be; however, it is not the way they actually are. Most if not all states (I used NJ as an example) have consumer fraud laws that prevent sellers from advertising things that they never intend to sell. So do you see now that your last sentence is incorrect?

Don't take it so personally. I'm just correcting you because I happen to have knowledge in the area. You made a blanket statement and it was just plain wrong -- it's OK, I'm wrong about a lot of things...I just bet on the Padres today.

PS -- I'm dropping it after this post.
