I would like advice regarding one band settings that best complement the shape of a large pear (approx. 12 x 7). I was thinking about 2 princess .25 ct side stones placed at an angle and the rest of the band in pave or 6 rounds (3 on each side approx .25 -.20 ct each )or 2 trillion side stones. Looking for a timeless look. Suggestions and photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I saw a ring once that had two pears going the other way flanking it... smaller ones... and once I saw just two pears stuck together like a heart... I''ve not seen pics of either of that though... I''ve seen pears stuck nose to nose like an eternity symbol as well... but so far on PS the only thing I''ve seen with pears is halos.... I hope you inspire some other pics!!

I think for sidestones a tappered bag on each side is SOOO elegant. I also love smaller pears turned on their sides. Small RBs (melee) would also look great. I am not sure about your princess idea though....

Ditto...rounds, pears, or baguettes. I do not see princess sidestones with a pear being timeless.

okay this is mostly a joke... but how about for "timeless" you stick two pears tip to tip and do the gold up like an hourglass :D hehehehe... timeless... get it? ::guffaw::

Be careful with all those corners though, just a mock up...

I think you should go with what YOU love, and that will make it timeless for YOU.

I love a pear 3 stone with side pears, but that''s just me.

The look I like the best for a big pear is definitely tapered baguettes on each side. Single or double bags depending on the thickness you prefer.

I love the idea of smaller pear sides or bags.

my personal preference would be a pear with pear sides

I totally agree. Princess sides set on their points would not complement a pear center at all. Neither would trillions. Tapered baguettes, smaller side pears set horizontally, or just a plain pave band would look gorgeous. Halos, of course, are also great with pears.

Thank you! Thank you all for the suggestions & great photos! I nixed the idea of princess & trillions. Steering towards pave, small pears or slightly graduated rounds. Need to get out & see some more settings. Love the halo but concerned the custom work will not turn out well - appears to get a bit complex for me. Not sure I can articulate what I want to a jeweler- I need to SEE it.

If I go for rounds, are U-prongs or 4 prongs per round best?

I am a BIG fan of pears with halos. I think they really make the stone shine...

for whatever my two cents is worth!!!

The Show me your pears thread MrsS posted is the greatest reference on PS for how to set a pear! All of the suggestions are great - you can hardly go wrong!

My favorite idea is the pear sidestones, it''s an elegant look.

I have 2 pears set into rings. One is 3.56 carats with tapered baguettes and the other one is 1.26 set by itself.

ooooohhhhh you are so lucky!

Does ''"RB" stand for round brilliant? Also, what is meant by melee? Sorry, I am just getting the hang of the lingo :-)

yes, RB stands for round brilliant. Melee are the tiny diamonds used in pave settings or some eterntity bands.

Thank MrsS! I just went thru the show me your pears thread! I am sooo impressed and thoroughly confused about a setting. But at least I have some great ideas when I go shopping. However, stores just don''t seem to showcase one band settings that suit a pear. I guess simplicity is the best route when looking for a timeless look with a bit of the "WOW'' factor - however, I really do like some of the more ornate pave antique settings that sparkle from all three sides... DAZED by all the dazzling choices!!!!
