Settings for very light green diamond and N/O OEC diamond

I want to stop buying diamonds for a while. I have enough and need to concentrate on some other things in life. I was mostly busy with stones and paid zero attention to settings. I set some in temporary settings just to be able to wear and enjoy the stone.
I plan to reset few of them in the next few months.

I prefer very open, airy settings at this point of time - I want to be able to see as much of a stone as I can with as little of metal as possible. I like the stone to pop up and float.
My next two projects are:

1. 2.20 N/O OEC from Erica/Grace. It's set right not in a very nice setting from Poppyseed, but I don't think it suits this stone. I liked how stone performed before it was set, so I plan either to modify exsisting setting or to find another one.

2. .67 very light green old emerald cut. Yes, i'm keeping it. After evaluating it in many different places, and seing green or greenish/blue hue in it I decided to keep. My 10 year old son nailed it by pointing out that it looks green just by taking one look inside the house. I would love to set it in the most open setting possible as well. I also wonder what setting would emphasize body color the most.

Would appreciate any suggestions and links.

I initially thought of this JM piece for your OEC, but I think I heard that he won't set outside stones. :(sad Of course if you were interested you could have someone else do a similar design.

The green is a toughy. do you think green gold would highlight the green in the stone or compete with it?

Edit to include the link

How would you want to modify the setting? It's already prong-set, so would you like less metal on the prongs? Less metal overall? Would you like a super-simple solitaire, or do you want stones on the shank, some kind of detailing, etc? Incredible stone, btw.

Are you trying to set these on a budget, or do you want to go for some kind of dream setting? If you want to stay more or less on a budget but want custom work, you could try DanielM on Etsy, he does pretty good work:

Also, thanks for posting that link to antique pears in response to my question in Dreamer's thread. Very cool! You don't happen to have links to antique ovals like Yennyfire's, do you? :naughty: Not like I can buy any right now, but I want to know if others are out there.

Christina,
I love JM settings, but I'm afraid that haloing the girdle, effect the performance.
Somebody here mentioned that since old cut stones were cut for candle lighting, they benefit from light entering from pavilion. So i was thinking about something like my old Russian setting, but different since I cannot have two similar rings.

GemFever,
Want to split those pears - I call the fat one!
About my current setting:
Right now it it has a solid bottom, which I think changes how the diamond returns the light, since the light doesn't go through it. So bottom needs to go away. I also want to remove two prongs out of three on each corner and maybe even the detail between the prongs (if possible). I might also ask my jeweler to cover the ring with rose gold alloy.
I care more about dream diamonds, not dream settings. Setting are only to allow me to wear them (preferably on fingers, so I can stare at them all the time :twirl: ) So the less the cost, the better.
I like the settings you posted, it's very my taste. I'll probably shoot him an email and describe what i want.

Oh, and here is a nice antique oval cut for you. Love the diamond, hate the setting.

Milton333,
What can I say, that is a one cool setting!!!!
Maevona is so unique. It's so pricey though and I couldn't find any on a secondary market. Might ask my jeweler if he can make something similar for me. I love the rose gold they use. Any idea what kind of alloy is that?

So the ovals are out there. Good to know. :rodent: (thanks for the link!)

I hope you find the perfect setting at the perfect price. I've lately been thinking that one way to play with diamonds is to set them in simple but secure pendant settings, and then wear on a long chain.

In my experience old cuts that have leakage under the table -- in other words, most of them -- look better in open mounts because then there is no darkness underneath the stone to "leak" thought (i.e., be visible to the eye). Otherwise I have nothing constructive to add 8) Settings are my nemesis.

I noticed it as well. I loved the N/O more before I set it. And while the curent setting is nice, solid metal bottom of the gallery affects how the stone returns the light.

The inside of the gallery has a yellow tint to it, so now when I look into the stone I see yellow, greenish/yellow color right under the table.
I don't mind seeing the real color of the stone, but I don't want to see the color of the metal mixed with the color of the stone.
I actually think that belcher style of settings fits old cut the best.

Or a white metal mount which would then reflect the silver through the stone. That may be more pleasing to your eye, or less obvious anyways.

Inna, I see the same 2.2 OEC on JbEG's site. Is it the same diamond you had? If so, do you mind my asking what made you changed your mind about the diamond? Was it the warmth, the yellowish-greenish tint? It's a beautiful stone and am curious as to what it looks like IRL. There's a limit to what pictures can convey. Any insight is appreciated.
