Hello!

My search for an Asscher continues, but I wanted to ask everyone''s opinion on appropriate settings for Asschers. My bf and I are looking at stones in the 1.0 carat range, and I''m wondering if a simple solitaire setting is going to make the stone look small. I know they face up small anyway, but is there a way to avoid this?

What about number of prongs? Side stones? So many setting questions! If it helps, we''d like to get it set at JA, since that is where he will most likely purchase the stone from. Also, he prefers plain settings, while I might enjoy some channel-set diamonds and a plain wb.

Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Thanks!

Katamari has an AMAZING asscher solitaire (from JA.) Hers is .72, so yours would be a bit bigger. Here is her ring for an idea.

There are lots of settings for asschers on here. You can search the SMTR thread for lots of ideas. You might also want to think about double prongs, if you like them. Many people don''t like them on smaller asschers, but it is an option.

I would recommend going to a store and trying on lots of settings of different styles. This will give you a better idea and you might even surprise yourself about your preference!

Ditto ---- Katamari''s ring came to mind for me too when I read your post. It is sublime!

Her ring is gorgeous! We were actually considering that setting. I know he is going to try to surprise me, but I''d like to have a bit of input too.

I''m wary of something that sits too high, but it seems like many of the simpler settings seem to have this feature.

Personally I like asschers best in simple or deco inspired settings. Hard lines if you will. And no, I don''t think a solitaire will look small, it''ll be gorgeous!

Thanks, blackpolkadot and lesco! I am blushing!

I totally recommend a solitaire or micropave, Katrina. I also paid a little extra to get "clawlike," "dainty" prongs. Basically they just shaved the prongs to a point and made them as small as possible before setting it. I felt like this is worth doing because I think if the prongs aren''t done well, it can make the asscher loose its octagonal shape.

I went with a solitaire because I love the simplicity of it and the options it leaves open for the wedding band. Initially, I thought I might reset it into a micropave setting like blackpolkadot has, but I am loving the solitaire too much. I also contemplated a solitaire with a NSEW setting, but I think I just wanted to see it more than I wanted to have it (if that makes sense).

I know there is some mixed opinion on this among PSers, but I think that simple settings make the stone look bigger because it is clear what is the stone and what isn''t. Again, though, that just imho.

Ditto. LaurenthePartier has a wonderful combination of asscher and hard lines, imo.

Hi Katrina, my asscher is currently at the jeweller being set!!! I''ve gone back and forwards with so many different designs, my poor bf wasn''t able to keep up. He had been giving me the "I don''t mind, you''ll be wearing it, I''m happy if you''re happy" which is positively unproductive when you want an opinion, but just after we bought the diamond we went to Tiffany''s and I tried some rings on, and I finally got some responses. I had entertained the idea of having a pave halo, but he spoke up and asked why I would want to hide my asscher underneath "those little round ones". I would have had a pave band if I had a halo so that sorted that. I initially wanted double claw setting, but after more thought began to tend towards a bezel setting, mostly as a security measure (I work in the medical field, and pushing and pulling people around can be rough on your hands and therefore rings), but also to show the shape (my asscher has nice wide corners). I also wanted something reasonably delicate as I have small hands. So, hopefully I''l be showing everyone the end result very soon, a bezel set asscher with a thin, plain band. Later on I''ll be adding two pave bands that will sit flush with the ering band.
So after that essay I don''t know if I''ve helped at all, actually, I''ve possibly made you more confused. My only advice is that if your bf is willing to offer his opinion to take it on board, I''ve really had to squeeze it out of mine, and I''m happier knowing that he''ll look at the ring for the next forever and I''ll know that he''ll love it as much as I do (ok, maybe not quite as much).
Good luck!!!

Oh, and about it looking small, I was worried about that too, but I don''t know anyone with >1ct and only know one other person with a 1ct, which I might add looks MASSIVE. I think the more you look at pricescope and see al these gorgeous 1.5ct + rings the bigger you want!!!
