I want to purchase a Michael B setting but do not want to send it to him. I have read most of the post on Michael B but I am still a bit aprehensive about sending the stone. Has anyone ever just purchased the setting and had it set by a local jeweler?
Great topic Nrvus - I was actually searching the same subject online when I came across this - My boyfriend is purchasing a stone online and a Scott Kay setting we have seen at a B&M but we found it online for a better deal but he does not know how to get it set once he gets it in hand. I''m glad we''re not the only ones this lost!!
i have had the experience of purchasing a diamond online and having it set at a local jeweler. though i can't say it was necessarily the best scenario, as i would have liked to have it set by the vendor, there weren't any problems either. it may have helped that the setting was purchased at the jeweler. best of luck to you!
The best is to get it set by Michael B''s setters.
I sent my stone to Tacori, well actually the jeweler sent it to them to set.
They do a much better job than your local jeweler because they are the ones
who designed the ring. Plus if it''s eternity. I also noticed that having Tacori
see my center stone, probably allowed them to pick the side diamonds more
carefully to match my center. Believe me i did both ways, set by my jeweler
and set by Tacori and and Tacori did a way better job. Plus, they wouldn''t steal
it, Michael B, they are a very highly regarded reputable designer.
Your totally safe sending it to them to set while they make your ring.
Not to freak you out, but have you checked out this thread on damage during setting?? The likelihood that something might happen to your stone during the setting process is likely minimal, but you definitely want to make sure that you have an understanding with whoever is setting your stone prior to the event taking place. Usually if you have the person who sold you the stone do the setting, they assume the liability. Just something to think about. I had the person who sold me my stone do the initial setting, and when I had a new setting made, had the setting maker actually set my stone, not a 3rd party.
