I am looking at setting a stone in the standard 6 prong setting. They look pretty much the same everywhere I have seen, so hopefully you all know the setting I am talking about. How would you "word" the following in an online order??

SETTING THE STONE LOW:
I want the stone set low, but I have read on here that there should be some space for cleaning purposes. Is it safe to assume a pricescope online vendor will automatically leave that necessary space or do I need to specify? I do not want the space to be visible.

MORE ROUNDED PRONGS:
The prongs on the setting from a side view have 4 sides and 4 corners. The corners are very sharp and defined looking. I would like to have the corners "worn down" a bit. I am not a fan of sharp looking edges.

Does what I am saying here make sense? Are these pretty standard requests? Is there a better way to word them?

The gap between the bottom point (culet) of the stone and the base of the head also exists so that the culet is not chipped during setting and/or the chance of breaking the culet is reduced if downward pressure is placed upon the diamond... I''d recommend letting the jeweler know that you know it''s supposed to be there when requesting a low profile setting so that he doesn''t try to push the stone in an attempt to meet your expectations and accidentally damage it.

There are low profile heads available for most settings, most of the traditional settings come with a standard head which is preferred by many people... There are also high settings available for those who prefer a higher look.

Rounding out the prongs is a style of finishing out the ring, just ask the jeweler to round them out.

HI ilikesparkles
I also love stones to be set low in the setting.
It''s not the most simple matter to really get the stone as low as possible.
Many rings- especially solitaire type rings- use a "peg head" which makes it impossible to have the stone set very low.
The best way to have the stone set low is where it''s actually set "into" the ring, instead of "on top of"

For cleaning purposes the height matters less than if the setting has some open area making it possible to reach the bottom of the stone.

In terms of prongs, I also love the softer more rounded profile on a prong. Again, this has to do with the parts used.
A good polisher can round off a sharp prong- but starting with a different part is a better idea.
Generally we find that it''s necessary to custom make a ring to get the stone as low as possible- and also to have the prongs be made to one;s liking.
