Hi I have been lurking for some time and been getting inspired from all the gorgous picutres on this forum.
My boyfriend has put a deposit on a beautiful untreated 2.16 ct ceylon sapphire for my engagement ring and now I just need to work out how to have it set.
I DO know want a pave halo around a centrestone which I will have prong set. I think I will opt for a plain band as I want a plain wedding ring and I like them to match (decisions I have made thanks to all the info and photos on PS).
What I dont know is how I want it to look in profile..
and I am finding it hard to conduct effective searches because I dont know the right name for things
The two terms that are baffling me the most are-
1. What is it called if you dont have shoulders..? Like a Ms.Flutters ruby ring which I totally love and the others pics I have attached.. I think of as a seesaw setting but would love to know what its really called..
2. I have also seen some settings in the jewellery shop in town which are like an open basket setting except the band almost closes but instead flares back up to support the centre stone (I dont have any pictures of this and finding it very hard to describe! so I have drawn a rough diagram in paint PLEASE excuse my awful drawing) If someone can tell me what this setting is called I would be grateful!
It will allow me to do some better searches and communicate better with the jeweller when the time comes
