I just recieved my (long awaited) e-ring. It was designed by a friend of mine and I am not sure that I am 100% happy with it. The head is sitting on top of the band instead of being recessed into in and I am afraid that it looks sort of cheap.

The friend who designed it (long story and I really can''t get into the detaiils without giving too much identifying info) must have specified it for a reason, but I think it looks odd.

Is this something that I could take to a jeweler and have tweaked, or would it require a whole new setting?

Thanks!

I''m so sorry that you aren''t 100% thrilled with your e-ring.

That''s a 4-star bummer.

Can you post pictures? We can help you better if we can see what your ring looks like.

It *sounds* like you have a "peg head" when what you really wanted was an "integrated head". And I know exactly what you mean, because integrated heads are by far my favorite look, too.

Well, I don''t know if it could be changed or fixed... my initial thinking is that it will most likely need completely remade. But please know that I am no expert, and especially without any photos, I am pretty much just stabbing in the dark!!!

Why don''t you tell your friend? If you can''t I would see if you can find a good jewelry store so it isn''t made worse. Can you post pics?

Sorry about the poor quality cell phone pics, I have managed to misplace our digital camera.

Thanks!

Here is another angle.

And another.

sorry for so many posts, but hopefully you can see why I am not sure about this setting.

The diamonds are beautiful, but I just can''t help feeling as if the jeweler was not quite as good as he claimed to be

Again, I am NO expert... but that looks to me to be a standard, stock peg head. Honestly, it's not my favorite look, either.

I don't think that it can be changed to become "integrated" into the band... I still think that would mean a total re-make. BUT, I have seen very significant changes made to the prongs or the head itself. A skilled benchman should be able to unset your stone, then thin, shape and round out those prongs to make the entire head look more delicate and swoopy.

Plus I think your diamond could then be re-set a lot LOWER and that would also help eliminate that "tall-head-just-plunked-down-on-the-ring" look that you don't like.

Those changes could make a world of difference, IMVHO.

as lynn said, it is a standard ''peg'' head and not much can be done other than having it remade, or at best, having the prongs altered. that won''t change the ''stuck on'' look that IS a peg head but at least you could customize it a little.

best of luck to you.

Thank you Lynn.

Luckily my fiancee (wow, that feels weird after 9 years of ''boyfriend'') is totally ok with any changes I want to make. I think he realized a while back that it was a bad idea for someone as picky as me to have not been totally in charge of the design process since day one.

Now I just have to find someone that I trust to do the work.

There was a WONDERFUL jeweler who did some custom work for me a few years ago, but I have not been able to find him and his old website is now a **** site

Hopefully I can either find him or someone else equally skilled to make this ring EXACTLY what I want it to be.

You're quite welcome. I hope you are able to get it just like you want it, too. An e-ring should make your heart sing everytime you look at it!

Keep us posted.

Thanks Belle,

Hopefully I can find someone to either change the head a little or remake the ring into something a little more graceful.

Keep your eye out for a good setting that might feasibly replace it too. sometimes that is a better option!
Let us know how it goes! good luck!

The problem with buying another setting is that the whole ring is made out of vintage diamonds and I want to keep the sidestones as well as the center stone.

I will either need to get this one changed or have a totally new custon setting made.

Hopefully I can track down the really good jewelery who has made other pieces for me!
