setting purchase

As a newbie I was hoping for some direction on purchasing a setting for a loose diamond. I have found pricescope and these forums as useful educational tool and I am looking to purchase a loose diamond shortly. However, I''m thinking about purchasing a name brand setting e.g., bulgari, tiffany, ritani etc., but I am concerned about a couple of things the first being their ability to maximize the diamond and properly setting it in the ring. Secondly, do all of these stores sell their settings if I don''t buy their diamonds? Any pitfalls to avoid?

Some of you will probably say I''m crazy but I know my girl will appreciate a great diamond in a bulgari setting more than the same diamond in a no name setting and at least I know I got best value for the diamond. I plan on posting my choices shortly.

Hi deadwood and welcome.

Only you know what will make your gal 100% happy. Not all designers will make you purchase the stone from them. Many of the big names like tiffany''s and Harry winston do. I love some of the big name jewelry but I like being able to pick out my own stone without paying a 40% markup. You can purchase your own stone for Ritani and they will do a great job setting it. they make their settings around your stone and I have heard only good things about the quality.
