What do you guys think about these two settings....I can''t decide.

This is going to be paired with a 3/4 Ct ACA F VS1 from WF. She seems to love other girls pave settings so that''s why I''m going that route. Most importantly, I''m looking for something that is thin so she can play tennis with the ring on....and I also think a delicate looking setting will help make the stone look bigger...right?

Which of these two settings do you guys prefer? I can''t decide! HELP! :)

also...can any expert tell me the relative pros and cons of 18k white gold vs. platinum?

Thankyou guys so much for all your help!!

Hi Demonic

Both are beautiful settings, I would be careful though with tiny melee diamonds in the band if your GF plays tennis, even if she is right handed you do tend to use the left hand at times with the raquet which could put some strain on the small stones and loosen them....Might be best if she took it off when she plays. These sorts of bands don''t stand up to vigorous wear as well as a plain band.

WG or platinum - depends on preference, platinum is popular nowadays and is durable, also it doesn''t need replating like WG does sometimes.

Hmmm....good point on the tennis....Maybe I should just go with a solitaire setting for the proposal, and then pick out the final setting with the gf....I mean fiance...:) afterwards? That way I''d be sure we got something she loved, and something that would work well for tennis...?

Would this be a major hassle with WF? I guess we''d have to pay for 2 way shipping and be without the ring for a while....argh.

so many questions

I would like the 3 row domed the best with the legato head

. But...need to consider all those little
diamonds and how rough your GF is on her rings. If she might be rough on her rings then I would go with the
legato ring.

esp if she is active, I''d get as plain solitare for the proposal and then you can design a perm setting together. I''d only get 3 sided pave if she really is willing to baby it...I personally would not be willing to abby my ring that much.

Ok great. thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will go with the "tiffany" style solitairre and then change settings afterwards.

Anyone have experience working with WF on changing a setting? How much does the shipping end up running, and are they pretty good at doing this or do they put up a fuss?

I prefer the three-row. Just make sure she takes off her ring to play tennis. Many of us take off our rings to exercise...

If you know she likes micropave (not just pave, but the super-tiny stones have a different look than the slightly larger ones) then I do like the three-row setting. However in the stores I found that I prefered the sparkle from slightly larger pave stones than the micropave, so I guess I vote for the Legato one based on that. Plus then you get the Legato head, which is lovely.

Yes, delicate setting will make stone look bigger and both these settings qualify ;) - they should look great with a 3/4 ct ACA.

I do not find it comfortable to wear my rings while gripping a sporting item. Plus these rings are thin with tiny stones, they don't need that kind of abuse. Many women take their rings off for sports, I think that is the way to go for most.

As for white gold or plat, obviously cost is one factor (plat is more). WG requires replating to stay white, sometimes more or less frequently based on one's personal chemistry. It will acquire a slightly yellowish tone as the plating wears off. Plat is also usually plated in stores, but is a true grey-white metal underneath. It can require polishing to stay shiny, but some people don't mind the patina of tiny scratches that plat develops over time. Plus both those rings you are considering have lots of pave stones to sparkly rather than smooth expanses of metal to look shiny or dull, silvery-white, grey, or slightly yellowish. There are some material property differences between the wg and plat also (ie plat is denser, etc.) but so long as a reputable jeweler is standing behind the rings and says either metal is solid and sturdy for a particular ring, I'd go with it. (As in, you shouldn't coerce a jeweler into using a metal or alloy that they are not as comfortable with or they think is ill-suited to a particular design.)

Perhaps when you get to the real ring, a 1/2 pave design may have some merit in thought. This would make the bottom of the shank just metal. She gets to look at pave from the top, and then the racquet will only touch metal.

Congrats on your pending proposal...What an exciting time for you, both!

They do it all the time, no fuss. But I don''t think you would get a refund on the original temp setting. Shipping is about $50 each way. So all told the temp setting would run about $350 out of pocket. Totally worth it to allow you and the gf time to pick what she really wants.

I love the Legato, I agree w/ Ms.Halo, she can take it off to exercise and then you won''t have to deal w/ spending more money on another setting and her being w/o it for some time.

if she wants something she can play tennis with, I'd actually recommend something with a thicker shank - I'm thinking 3mm or so. That way there's no worries that it will get bent out of round when she's gripping the racquet - I know I tend to grip pretty tightly. This is a bigger concern with a pave or micropave shank, where out-of-round means stones popping out

I would never play tennis with a ring on - especially one with micropave - I do play alot of tennis in the summer, and I can`t stand wearing my tiny eternity band - it just cuts up my finger and interferes with my playing.. so she may change her mind about wearing it..

for the settings - I prefer the second one - the Legato head is soo gorgeous !

I like the Legato MicroPave setting. Very pretty.

I don’t wear any rings when playing tennis (I play all year round both indoors and outdoors) and even a plain band bothers me. I would dread the result of a tennis ball somehow accidentally making contact with a diamond ring.

You need to read the descriptions carefully on Whiteflash''s site. Your first setting does not contain ACA melee but the second one does. I inquired about why some of the descriptions say ACA melee and some don''t; Whiteflash said the ones that don''t are not actually made there and don''t use the same melee. Notice the first setting also takes much longer to make than the second, I think that''s another clue. I can''t speak for the quality of the settings not made there - just that Whiteflash said it is not ACA melee in those rings.
