I purchased an OEC (2.37 M) and am smitten! Now comes the deilema of setting her... I spent a larger portion of my budget on the stone so funds are limited for the setting. I'm looking at getting an antique styled "temp" setting and saving up for my dream setting down the road. I also have plans to make the temp setting into something for my daughter so it will have a future purpose. The real problem I have is the setting needs to be platinum due to allergies, I have read palladium is less expensive and hypoallergenic but have no experience wearing it to know how I'd react....so if anyone with allergies and owns palladium please chime in!

Trying to keep cost under $1500.

Hoping you guys might have some genius ideas!

Have you seen this Stuller setting? It comes in Platinum and should be within budget. http://www.stuller.com/products/122004/3637834/?groupId=113775&fromProductDetails=True If you do a PS search by the Stuller style number, several threads should come up featuring this setting with old-cuts etc. It should stand the test of time very well, and when it comes time to re-set it for your daughter would work great with colored gemstones too.

I do see in the drop-down box for this setting that Stuller offers it in Palladium White as well as Palladium - but if it were me, with a known allergy, and wanting to re-use in the future, I'd stick with Platinum.

God I love this setting. Stick with platinum. Also will likely be better for future resale when you get your forever setting.

Lila, do you have a photo of your M? Sooo curious :) I am sure you will find a beautiful setting for it, even if it's only a temp one.

Lila, I had the same question in my mind when buying our bands as I'm super allergic to nickel. We ended up buying my band in Platinum and I haven't regretted it.

BUT... my ring size is different during summer and winter, and I ended up buying a wider Palladium band in smaller size for winter months. It was cheap so I didn't have much to loose. I've had my Palladium band for two years now and I haven't had any symptoms of reacting to the metal. =)

Hi guys! Thanks for the feedback! I do really like that Stuller setting, I'm going to have to call around today for pricing on that. I've also found a setting at a local chain jeweler...not quite as big of a chain like zales or something but still a chain. Which forever reason makes me not want to purchase from them but I keep going back to the site to look at the setting. Ha ha!

As for pictures....none yet but soon I'm sure! The stone is on video on Old World Diamonds YouTube channel if you are curious. It's the newest video I think title 2.37 Old European.....the stone is much whiter in person face up, I was surprised. It has some quirks but I love it :)

No advice on a setting, but beautiful stone!
