Is it better to buy a setting from the place you want your diamond set or is it acceptable to buy a setting online and then ask your local jeweler to set it for you ? How long does it usualy take to have a stone set? Will a local jewelers balk at setting astone purchased online? This is a first for me.

Does anyone know of a good place in the Seattle area that is NOT downtown to have a stone set??

Skippy,I bought the diamond from Mondera...they had a $125 off PS coupon so the price was less from them than anyone else I saw for this stone.

Found the diamond doing a search here using the search function. I like the 30 day return policy they have and no sales tax part too.Since this is the first stone I''ve purchased online I wanted to keep my return options easy and open.I cannot say anything bad about my experience so far.

Looking at what you linked to it appears only one of those has mounting services?? No one else has that box checked.I did not know BlueNile was here...I know so little about what is downtown anymore.Looks like they only set if you buy the stone from them. I just want to set it in a simple solitaire setting, if I buy it local would a jeweler be more amenable to setting the stone?? I don''t want to insult them. Did not think it would be a problem getting it set, I should have looked into that first I guess.
Perhaps I will have to bite the bullet and just take it to my very local little jeweler and see what they can do.

I would not mention where the stone came from. It is not really their business. I''d just say I am looking for a setting for a diamond I have. Jewelers do resets all the time. They are in business to sell settings as well as stones. I''d just avoid the internet issue because it might make them a bit resentful. If anyone asks me, I just say my stone came from a great jeweler in NY, or Houston in the case of my earrings!

You are absolutely right Diamondseeker! Why would I have to tell them it came from internet shopping?? I just know they will ask me and then ,knowing me, I''d blurt it out....but I am going to give it a go. I just called them and they said they would be happy to set it in a mounting purchased from them.. they did not ask about where it came from. Probably go on Friday to see what they have, should be simple since I want nothing much a this point.I like this jeweler and do not want them to feel any resentment.
I have to do something soon since I am wasting too much of my time sitting and staring at this stone, at least if it is set it will be more portable!!
