Hi everyone,
Does anyone have a 6 prong setting from JA that they like? I am purchasing my diamond through JA and taking advantage of their free setting... for now at least. I am realizing WF may have been a better vendor to go with vs JA.

I’m looking at the following:

1.https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-six-prong-knife-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-2426

2.https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-presentation-solitaire-six-prong-item-7989

I currently have #1 but they put the wrong prongs on— they are more ball like vs claw like— so returning.

I like #1 given I assume the quality is better based on the $600 price difference— and that it replicates Tiffany setting.

But I like the clean, straight lines of #2– and heard band is thinner which might look nicer.

Do you have an opinion or photos of one or the other? Preferably some side shots? Additionally, what’s your perspective on the donut on #1 vs flush band on #2 if pairing w a wedding band?

Thank you in advance!
Andrea

I personally prefer #1 but what I like doesnt really matter. I do not consider #2 a flush band. The prongs stick out past the side
and will push your wedding ring out. If you have diamonds in your wedding band you may also need to worry about them
eating into the prongs of your ering.

If you send #1 back and order #2 you need to make sure you specify what prongs you want/expect on it, or you could end up with
ball prongs on #2 too.

The type of prongs on a setting is beginning to be more of an issue. I think everyone needs to let their SA specifically know what kind
of prongs they are expecting. That way they get what they want or if there is an issue with those type of prongs on that setting the
SA can let you know
.

I would think by default you would get the prongs that are depicted in the spinning image but this does not appear to be true anymore.
Better safe than sorry...let them know what you want!

I have asked JA for high res photos of what the settings are supposed to look like— and unfortunately they can’t provide...

You are right, every setting in a customer photo online has different prongs... some ball, some claw, some rectangular.

I know I do not like ball, especially given the surface area my last prongs took over on the diamond— too prominent.

The real Tiffany setting shows rectangular prongs7D97D0A0-4421-43A3-A946-7181ED9C1BB5.png

What is the perception of rectangular vs claw prongs? Seems like more high end store use claw? JA apparently said #1 setting (knife edge) should be claw.

Thank you!!
