I am purchasing GemFevers 1.75 OEC. I'm SO excited. I know that I want jbeg to create my setting. Right now I'm 90% sure on going with this: http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Jewelry/Loose-Diamonds/313ct-Old-European-Cut-Diamond/23335341_bVd7vc#!i=1897125443&k=Qxh7rTg

Page 2 for the setting.

My only concern is that will a much smaller stone, it's going to look much different than the 3 carat does. I know I want a vintage, low setting like this though. I'm leaning towards white gold.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

imo, the diamond ring you showed was meant for a smaller stone than that. There is too much stone hanging out over the edges of the mounting. Those big square prongs are meant to square the corners of the round diamond and make it appear larger and also square.

I found a similar ring at Lang's Antiques, smaller, this is .96ct center stone. But this is what is should look like when correctly proportioned.

Antiques are cut differently so dont look at carat weight but mm size. The ring you linked to is 9.53 x 9.41mm is 7.5-7.6mm. So while it will be smaller I think it will still look lovely and huge in that setting. :naughty:

If it thelps I would draw a circle that is 7.5mm wide and cut it out then put it on my finger (yes I have done this many times before  ). This will help give you a visual of how much finger coverage you will get. If you are going for something set low I don't think the setting TC linked to will work for you as I believe that makes everything sit higher up but perhaps Circe will see this and comment as I know she has a very similar setting.

Congrats on your new OEC! Welcome to the old cut club!

Thanks for all the replies! I actually liked that the diamond hung over the setting a little bit. I don't think I want something looking 100% square. But I LOVE all the other option you've shown. I looked at the end of that last thread, but will read through the entire thing later today. Now I'm really confused about what I want now.

Maddy, I think you can achieve the "hanging out" or "not quite square" look with a 7.5mm stone. My new 1.54ct 7-7.3mm (not quite round) stone had that look with corner prongs (until the jeweler filed them down without asking). I'll attach a pic -- it's sitting next to the 1.75 (back when it was still a ring), and the setting is makes it visually almost as big as the 1.75. IRL, the 1.75 is noticeably bigger ;))

I think if you let JbEG know what kind of proportions your want, they can probably do it for you? Worth asking, they are very helpful!

Yay for you Maddy! I saw that stone in person last week and it is awesome! White, bright, and sparkly! Can't wait to see it on your hand. And congrats Gem for a quick sale!
