Hi All,

I posted this by accident in SMTR, but meant to post it here...tried to delete it, but couldn''t..hope it doesn''t cause any probs!

I have my great grandmother''s 2.4 carat RB and I have been trying to decide on an engagement ring setting for it for ages. I really love so many of SingleStone''s settings, but I unfortunately cannot make it out to California.

So...I''ve been considering having an e-ring made custom - something delicate and finely detailed - similar (but not exact) to Rockzilla''s beauty - link below

I have found an excellent local jeweler who specializes in this type of work.

I''m really having a hard time deciding if I want to do split prongs. Does anyone know whether doing split prongs would make the center stone look smaller or larger? And do you think this type of setting would look good with split prongs as opposed to the flat-type ones?

I know it''s a matter of personal preference, but I''m having a really hard time coming to a decision on this!

Also, since I haven''t been able to get contact with Rockzilla herself, would anyone be able to tell from her photos the approx width of the shank? From her pics her ring looks perfect and I''d love to know all the dimensions.

Rockzilla, if you''re out there, thanks for the inspiration and I''d love to know what you think.

Thanks!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! (My friends all think I''m an obsessed crazy person, so PS is truly a safe haven for someone like me! lol)

Split prongs shouldn''t make the diamond look larger or smaller, especially when your rock is a whopping 2.40 carats! Usually the overall size of the prong section is the same and the tip is simply split a little to look like two smaller prongs... It''s kind of a cool visual effect!

Thanks, I just wanted to be sure that split prongs wouldn''t be adding bulk and making the stone appear larger.

Still can''t decide which ones I should do....

My thoughts exactly!

(and thanks for the link)

It really depends on taste, and sometimes a certain prong style works better with a certain design also. I''d have the jeweler draw up your design with each type. See what you like best!

I know it''s a big stone, and I have pretty small fingers so I really want to do something that is very delicate and dainty. I was thinking that the flat prongs like the ones on Rockzilla''s may add more bulk?

oh decsions decisions!

Thanks for the adivce!

I think rockzillas setting is lovely. If it were me, I would do it with split prongs!!!
