I love the stone very much. I had reset my 1.76 J into a setting by a good jeweler but because we were on opposite sides of the USA the communtication was just not quite right and after two tries we were unable to get the setting 100% the way I wanted it. What they gave me was a beautiful setting and I would highly recommend them as far as the craftsmanship goes (I''m talking Leon-esk split claw prongs). But we had a hard time with the communication so long distance was just too much. Anyways after all that I decided that I just needed to start out fresh from all stand points and upgraded my stone. So now she needs a nice new setting!

Please give me some ideas. I am going to go through WF for sure. I can''t be without my stone for too long and I have a good communication with WF as I have done a few projects with them already.

I have in mind Lynn b''s beautiful setting and I like the Aramis from WF as well maybe with some carving on the sides of the shank. I got to try on the a jaffe shared prong this weekend when Alj and I went to the boston jewelers building and I really liked it with the euroshank. I like Slammies head as well cause I think it would hide alot of the side color view which I can see in some lighting. But maybe doing it in micropave rather than the way slammies is done. I have also thought about an 8 prong head. There is a really great one on the Michael Barin web site. It''s BR-18 if you wanna look. Here is the link.

OK let me have it.... what do you think?!?!?!!?

Kt, I really like that BR-18!

Like the little filigree....that''s pretty and the 6 prong will tend to hide the side of the stone.

Just my opinion, I like looking thru my diamonds from the side. Have one that''s an old european and it''s definitely tinted....which I don''t mind. But, if you prefer not to see the tint, this style you''re considering is really pretty. I feel you should go for it!

How dare you buy that diamond right out from under me! I''ve secretly wanted it ever since I saw 3hearts'' 2.5 carat K ES even though I can''t afford it!
3.gif
Seriously though, congratulations! That is a GORGEOUS and GINORMOUS diamond!

As for setting that baby, I vote for a setting a la Lynn B. Her setting is sooooo gorgeous! I do like the Michael Barin setting, but Lynn B''s has just been one of my faves ever since I saw it!

I can''t wait to find out what you do!

You are a lucky lady!!! That stone will be like a supermodel--gorgeous in anything....

well given that you already know that anything lower than G willjust be YELLOW *hiss*...i like seeing the stone from the side a little...my J shows a little color but i like seeing the stone side view from time to time. so i wouldn't try to cover it all up. 8 prongs would be pretty i think if they were done extremely tiny (handmade most likely?)...one of the things i have always thought would be amazing in a ring head is WF's 8 prong earrings. i asked brian once about making that into a ring...i don't remember what he said but something like it was too delicate for a head...but maybe they can beef it up a little, and i'd make it cathedral style with very thin shoulders coming up to meet the head...leaving room for a wband to sit snugly next to it. for me personally i am kind of over the whole 'head slapped on' kind of thing, maybe because that's what my ring makes me think of all the time, even though i like it, so i'm more into the 'integrated' head kind of thing. my friend just got a beautiful 1.2c ACA princess in the legato sleek line (so a super thin cathedral shouldered plat ring with lynn's scalloped head) and it's BEAUTIFUL in pictures (he hasn't proposed yet). and it's not that expensive either.

food for thought...
2.gif
have you thought about doing a 3 stone? i know you are after 'max presence' on the hand kind of thing and i think that would really impress you bling wise. with that 2.4c stone you could do .6's on each side and really knock it out of the park...it'd be amazing.
3.gif

if all else fails, pack up that baby and send it to me, my neck is cold.

(oh and just to clarify for any unsuspecting lurkers or newbies reading this, the yellow thing was a funny...obviously as a proud owner of a J...i don't think lower colors are yellow. or even creme.)

At first I thought you meant the HW setting because that came up on the link! But now I see which one you mean, and I think it might be gorgeous for a K stone! I love a more antique look with warm color stones! In addition, it would be wonderful to have a special ring that almost no one else has. So I'd lean toward Michael Barin over everything you've mentioned. Are you sure they set other people's diamonds? I'd like to see a top view, though.

Okay, just looked again and saw the other view. I think it is outstanding.

I like to see the diamond from all angles as well, but I think that BR-18 is GORGEOUS!

Just popping in to say CONGRATS on the KILLER new stone, wonderful, awesome, amazing diamond!!!
30.gif
I am soooooo happy for you!

And I also wanted to say that I am pleased as PUNCH that my setting is even in the running!
*happy sigh!* That killer diamond of yours would do that setting PROUD!

Keep us posted on what you decide. I can't wait!

OH -- P.S. -- ETA: I have been on vacation and have obviously MISSED something regarding the "G colors and lower being YELLOW (*hiss!*
2.gif
haha!) -- please someone, have mercy and point me to a linky so I can have a good laugh for the day!!!! Thanks!

Congrats on your new stone, sure is a beauty. Can''t wait to see how you set it. Love Lynn''s ring and also love slammies. What ever you decide I''m sure it will be gorgeous.

LOL Lynn...it''s an offline thing...recently KT, Alj and I were in a BBB and we overheard a saleman telling some poor unsuspecting (quite cute actually) young ring buying male that ''anything over G or H is going to to show significant color, in fact it will be quite *YELLOW* (and YELLOW is said in a low, expelling kind of hiss, I KID YOU NOT!!!). It was all we could do right then and there to not pounce on poor unsuspecting cute young ring buying male (who was eyeing us up...maybe for assistance?!) and drag him to the relative safety of a local library with internet access. My J was actually quite offended!!

I REALLY like the Barin as well. But Lynn''s set is one of my all-time favorites so it''s hard to say.

Hi, KT! That is a beautiful diamond and I love the BR-18 setting. Of course, Lynn B''s setting is just as nice. I have always loved her setting. You certainly have good taste in settings and in diamonds.

LOL! I missed that. My 6.39 carat K/L would certainly have climbed out if its setting and gone and whomped the [dip$hit] salesperson upside the head. Then it and your J could have gone and shown their beautiful selves to the poor, uninformed male and led him to PS to make an informed decision.

"Quite *YELLOW*" my a$$!

I like the BR-18. You might also consider the Whiteflash ring with the sprinkles of diamonds on the shank [is it called Champagne?] There was also another beautiful one posted very recently by a known designer but I can't remember who it was. It was a first name and an initial. I'll have to look unless somebody remembers.

ETA Found the Whiteflash: Linky They also have a bigger one.

Thanks Ellen I really like the 8 prong with that shank. I think it would be different than anything I have seen. I''m not so sure about the scroll-work on the head though. I like the idea of it but not that one in particular.

That BR-18 is an 8 prong head.
I don''t mind some side view but not alot. I only see color in certain situations not all the time.

Tell me about it!
I loved 3hearts K too. I just needed to see this in person before I could make a decision. Seeing a well cut K sold me. No one I have asked (my close friends) have said they see any hint of yellow just sparkles. It''s really a great way to go for a total size whore on a budget!!!

I do like Lynn''s alot but I want to have something with my own twist as well. I really like her fishtail shank and that is high up in the running for sure!

Wow! That BR-18 is really nice. I don''t remember ever seeing an 8-prong head. It is lovely.

Michael Barin--another designer I haven''t heard of. I love his designs and I am looking.........

Mara you know your opinion is important coming for one size whore to another!!
I don''t want to cover up the whole side view but I do want something to distract from it a bit. I want to look at the detail of the head father than the stone color. Which again I only notice in certain conditions.
As far as a 3 stone...Alj and I did talk about this a bit and I am not a big 3 stone person but I do like aggie texas ring (i think that was her name) she has 0.25ct sides and than pave on the shank. I am going to chew on this food for a bit.
I think we need to go back to Mr Yellow and show him how it is really done!! He would die for sure!
The sleek line is really nice but I am not a plain shank gal That much I have learned.
I don''t want my shank to be too thin as I do have thick fingers. I am shooting for around 2.5-2.7mm! Some nice 3-5 pointers would be great sparkle factor.

Too bad your neck is cold....are you working on that problem?!?!?!?!?!?

DS I wouldn''t have Michael Barin set it. I do not 100% like that setting but I like the 8 prong head and how it flows with the shank. It needs some tweaking though.

You do have one of the most amazing sets on PS no doubt! It is definitely in the running just with a few special modifications to make it a bit different...kinda like a hybrid Lynn!

Oh and Mr Yellow was just too funny! Every PSer would have wanted to drag the poor cuttie outta there! But unfortunately we were incognito and couldn''t be recognized!

DB the champagne is too think and not enough bling for me. It is beautiful as I have seen it in person but just not quite right for me. Really good choice though.
