Hi all

I am narrowing down the selection of a new stone to upgrade my better-half's rings for our 10th anniversary. It will likely be a modified square such as a very good Princess, Radiant or an HOF Dream or something similar from GOG.

My wife's current setting has a pear as a solitaire and the wedding band has 7 small diamonds I have been really impressed by some of the e-rings I have seen on Pricescope. I like the Vatche X-Prong but also have to think about the existing pear. The Vatche 3 stone Truffle ring is nice too which I think would work so long as I can find a similar looking pear

I have seen some very nice 3-stone setting at http://www.hearts-on-fire.com/jewelry.php. One called the Insipiration Three-Stone and one called Seduction Three Stone that could be used as a model for a custom piece to accomodate the pears. Inspiration has a very clean tulip shape for the prongs. I know yellow-gold is a safe bet but am trying to find out if platimum is OK with my wife yet some how keep this as a surprise!

I may present the final diamond in a simple solitaire setting and then my wife can choose her ideal setting. Who knows she may decide to use the pear in a pendant but I think she would want either a 3-stone setting, or at the very least put the pear on a guard with another matching pear.

I am very open to ideas. I saw some "semi-mount" ideas that might work too. I wonder if there is a way to do this with just the one pear.

So, if you have any creative ideas let them fly!

cheers
Andrew

I've never, NEVER yet heard of a 3 stone ring combining pear-shape sides with a square center... but this is a good thing, isn't it?

A certain design holding a square cushion sapphire does come close to the idea though. Here it is... It may take some leap of faith, but I could see this with pears and a square diamond (Regent, HOF dream, but also princess or radiant cut)for a center and pears on the side instead the unusual cuts used there. The outline could be preserved for a range of stone mounting types (prongs, bezel... or something quite unusual altogether).

This is one ring with strong personality - to be sure...

If you go to this site
http://www.dahneandweinstein.com/
and click on the selection of settings there is a BEAUTIFUL square cushion with shield sides that are very similar to a pear! It's in the top row 2nd from left. Sorry I can't seem to copy the link to the exact setting. It's huge, but I'm sure that it would look beautful in the 1.5 size as well

Have fun

Thanks for your suggestion, keep them coming!

Yes, you are right I am yet to see Pear with a square center so it will be somewhat unique. I am leaning towards the shape of Dream, Regent, Queen of Hearts etc which have tapered/softer corners which do well when held up against the pear shape. The existing pear has very high sentimental value so I really want to use it in the design.

We must have been posting at the same time... a "little" bigger of a center stone but that's a great ring. I love how there are 2 prongs per corner.

So 3 stone is truly the only way of incorporating the existing pear, I guess... but keep them coming.

Thanks
Andrew

I have come up with my own design based on various settings I have found. Who do you recommend I work with for custom work?
