setting from one place + diamond from another = bad idea?

is it a really bad idea to purchase your diamond from 1 reputable seller online (whiteflash) and your setting (for the e-ring & w-band) from another reputable online seller (james allen)? it''s not that big of a deal to go to an independent jeweler and pay to have ask them to set the diamond but i''m wondering about long-term when you want to have someone check your ring every 6 - 12 months? who do you go to? the independent jeweler?

The main issue can be if something happened to the diamond whilst setting. It is usual that the vendor who sold the diamond will assume responsibility should anything happen to the diamond such as breakage but this might not be the case if the diamond is set elsewhere, so you would need to verify.
