Setting from one designer diamond from wholesaler

I am looking for ideas of how to safely get a Gabriel ring set with a diamond from an online retailer.
The problem - my local jeweler declined to set this ring feeling it was not adequate pronging.
Current plan is to order the diamond, have it appraised (it is GIA with a cert) Then ship to jeweler in NY who will open the diamond and set while we view online. Upon receipt we would verify again the diamond with our appraiser. Opinions or alternate ideas?

You've got a jeweler whe will let you monitor hime/her by streaming video? That's an interesting bit of marketing but why? Is this the reason you picked that particular setter or is it a side benefit?
