hi! I have posted a bit about this before in Colored Stones, but I think Rocky Talky gets more traffic and I would really like some opinions quickly!
I''m shopping for a sapphire RHR. Originally I planned to spend $3000 but now I am trying to keep closer to $2000. I have been speaking with a great vendor and they have located some beautiful 6mm cushions that look great so far and are around $1000. I''d like to narrow down the setting choice before buying the sapphire because for me the setting and stone selection go hand in hand.
I would like a simple but blingy cushion shaped halo. This is a RHR, so I am avoiding an engagement ring look. I also like low settings.
I have been leaning toward a beverleyK but am now getting cold feet. A store near me has the BevK eternity bands. They are really well made and felt right at home on my hand - I loved them! I can''t try on the exact BevK semimounts that I am considering though, and I am not 100% confident from the pics if they are too ornate for me or not. The BevK settings I am looking at are in the $1100-1500 range, which is just what I wanted to spend.
I went to another local store realized I like some modern pave settings a lot too. I tried some Scott Kay settings (not on the SK website yet) that I loved. Unfortunately they were over $2K.
My original favorite (without trying it on, as it is not available near me) is the Vatche Grace. That''s what I think I like best (again, sight unseen) but it is also about $2K. I expect this is the case with most of the designer pave settings. I''m not sure why BevK is a little less, but since I know the quality is great, I don''t think it''s a compromise at all. It''s just a matter of whether I want the antiquey style. All my other jewelry is sleek and modern. I have always enjoyed looking at and trying on antiquey stuff, especially art deco, but never purchased it.
I should add that I am really particular about the setting. Probably more so than about the center stone. I want to get this right the first time because at these prices, there will be no resets!
Also, do you think a 6mm cushion is a nice size for these settings? My e-ring is 1 carat (in my avatar). I want something for the RHR that will be different but not compete.
Thoughts???
