I just typed out a full post then IE decided to stop working...I've been trying to work this out for a couple of weeks but am still undecided, help will be much appreciated.

I want to choose between antiqued yellow gold with white prongs or antiqued white gold and white prongs.
The garnet is a lovely green with no yellow indoors, outdoor it is a lighter colour, sometimes with a smidge of olive.
Will a white metal head be enough to diminish the yellow/olive tinge?

Here's two example of the colours I'm choosing between.

I usually like demantoids with yellow gold, but yours is quite a deep green (not yellow-green) so I prefer the white gold setting :)

I almost always prefer white to yellow gold, I think that stone can handle it.

As one of the most chrome green demantoids I have seen, I think white gold would be nice, but I have seen chrome green demantoids in yellow gold too, and it was very pretty. It's a toss up for me.

I think you could use either one for this stone and this setting. The white gold in the setting you've chosen isn't stark, it's kind of softened because of the black. Pick what you like!

That stone's wonderful, btw.

I set my tsavorite in 18k yellow gold prongs with a white band, and I really love the look of rich yellow against deep greens.

I think either will be gorgeous though! That demantoid is amazing!

I think you'll probably be fine with white gold if thats your first choice as IMO your dematoid is green enough to handle it without going dead.

I hesitate going with yellow gold, especially if you're trying to downplay any yellow you may see IRL. My dematoid is not as green as yours, and does not look that great in white gold. It looks so much better in rose gold which helps to bring out the green more.

LG - I am in the minority group, but my own demantoid is set in white gold and it looks very nice. I remember your photographs and the stone is beautiful, but I forgot where you bought it. Was it litnon?

Hi Crasru
Yes the garnet is from Gemline (Litnon). ::)

Thank you everyone for voting, your coments and the lovely compliments.

Based on the comments I thought everyone voted all white metal, but the poll result is pretty close at the moment.

Depending on the colour, sometimes a white metal can end up accentuating the yellow or olive tinge in a stone. With yours going from a rich green to a brighter lighter tone outdoors, you might be able to choose either metal colour.

Thanks Chrono, I haven't thought of white accentuating yellow or olive tinge, I thought it's the other way around. I am learning that a saturated green or yellow can hold its own in white metal setting?

Your demantoid is beautiful & would look lovely in either settings, though my vote is for white gold.
(I have a lighter toned tsav set in unplated 18k white gold, which I really love, so naturally I'm more biased towards white gold... :naughty: )

Thanks virgoruby for your comments. Also I love your ring collection, they're wonderful!

I decided to go with platinum, I am old schooled and like the weight of the metal, and I want to replicate a vintage look and feel for this stone. This will be my first completed jewellery project for the year! :appl:
