Hi All

I''ve just recieved photos of some turquoise sapphires from a cutter I''ve been working with to find the perfect stone for my e-ring. I''ve always thought I wanted a round brilliant but when I saw the colour of this pear I fell in love with it. Its a 8x6mm VVS2 1.52ct stone.

My dilemma is this: I''m a reasonably active person so I was intending on getting a round brilliant in a half bezel setting, but now that I''ve seen this stone thats all flown out the window and I don''t know what I want! I''ve never considered having a pear so I don''t really know much about the setting options. I want something simple and am trying to stay away from claws as I don''t want it to catch on anything. I don''t like the halo look and I don''t want any side stones, nothing should detract from the sapphire that''s taken me years to find. I love half bezel settings for rounds but is this even an option for a pear? I suppose I also need to think about how a wedding band will fit into the picture. Any suggestions/photos of settings for a pear that might fit my requirements would be greatly appreciated.

I need to make a decision between this pear and a round within a week so I''m hoping all the knowledge that is the pricescope forums can help me out

Thanks in advance
Alison

Hi Leaf Girl! I like the cut and shape of your sapphire:) I thought that the 2nd and 3rd setting ideas are cool!

Burberry,
The second link doesn’t work for me.

LeafG,
I don’t believe I have seen a half bezel pear but plenty of full bezels. James Meyer does excellent bezel work at surprisingly reasonable cost for custom work. Not only that, but he does an open bezel style where the pavilion is open which gives the ring a more open and airy feel while still protecting the stone at the same time.

Burberrygirl i like the second and third settings that you posted.
I also just had a search around the net and found these few settings that are quite nice.
I still haven''t made up my mind about whether to go for the pear or a round but I''ve always said I want something very unique and I suppose a pear would just add to that

Gorgeous stone! I would have fallen for that too!

I love those first three of the settings posted, I would add that you should think carefully about whether you want a classic look or something really different, like those east-west settings.

I love east west myself - my ering will be an east west oval. But sometimes on PS I see postings where peeps are a little regretful they didn't go classic for the ering, since they wear it every day. Just something to consider.

However, any of those will look GREAT with the stone you found. Good luck deciding! I'd post more options, but most of the pear settings I like are pronged or have sidestones.

Hi leaf girl,
I noticed you posted in Bcrabtree''s thread on their E-W set pear - that is by far my all time fave pear setting and I think would look marvelous with your pretty sapph!
For others, here is a photo:

Leaf girl, would you mind to share what vendor has this colour sapph rough? I have been looking for a stone of this colour for some time, and the cutting on your pear looks lovely.
If you do not wish to share due to lurkers, I understand

Arjunajane - I absolutely love Bcrabtree''s E-W set pear, it is stunning! I''m not sure if I would like having that much metal on my finger all the time though, it looks like quite a heavy ring. Also, do you think a setting like that would make the stone appear darker? I want it to look as light and have as much brilliance as possible.

The vendor that I''ve been working with is Dana from Master Cut Gems. He is an absolute pleasure to deal with and the only reason I found him was from reading on these forums - specifically this thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/searching-for-a-2ct-brilliant-sky-blue-corn-flowe-blue-sapphire-for-minimal-setting-e-ring.121596/page-2

Redhead02 - I''ve thought alot about the style of ring that I''d like and I''m pretty sure that I''d like something thats relatively modern, simple and unique. I don''t think I would be regretful if I didn''t go for a classic style because I want my ring to be different and know that it was made just for me. But thanks very much for bringing it up, its good to think about these things.

I''ve asked Dana to send me a few more pics of the pear and the rounds to help my bf and I make our decision

how about this mokume ring?
i know this is a marquise but same idea
you could fit a pear and let the metal envelope around it =)

Very pretty stone. How about in a halo with a thin diamond band?

I just found this one which is quite interesting.

Marcyc - thanks for the suggestion but I''m not intrested in a halo around my stone, I don''t want any other stones in the ring. I''m a no fuss kinda gal

Take a look at the Stuller settings. Link Your jeweler can order and set your stone into these settings, and you will save quite a bit of money compared to custom work. I've attached an example of a setting that comes in a size that should fit your pear.

Hi Leaf Girl! I am always on the quest for unique settings, so I can understand what you''re going through!

Love your stone, and I particularly liked this setting that you posted. The one from Pearlman''s jewelers would come in a close second. That''s my opinion FWIW.

Good luck!

Oops, the pic didn't post. I liked the second Robert Paul, upside-down pear setting best!
