Hi all,

I just purchased the perfect stone from Whiteflash and am having trouble deciding what to do about the setting.

http://www.whiteflash.com/aca_princess/A-Cut-Above-Princess-cut-diamond-1158451.htm <--- Daimond

I''ve attached an image of the setting my soon to be fiance likes, however I would have to purchase the setting from a different vendor than Whiteflash so of course I run the risk of them chipping the stone. Plus I would have to deal with shipping the stone and such so I''m little hesitant to get the Ritani setting for that reason. If I were to go this route BB&B would warrant the setting, but not the center stone. I''m also toying with the idea of Whiteflash creating a similar design for me, however I know they can''t duplicate the ring exactly so I can''t be sure if it''ll live up to what I''m after. However, if I go this route everything will be warranted through Whiteflash, plus about $500 cheaper. I''m torn right now. I can go ahead and have Whiteflash draw up a CAD design and pay $250 and see what they come up with, or just bite the bullet and get the Ritani setting through BB&B, however I''m weary of the risk. My soon to be fiance is by no means sold on the Ritani name, but I''ve grown to like the Bella Vita setting pictured (even though I''ve never seen it in person). I know you guys can''t tell me what to do, but what are your opinions?

You might check with Pearlman's or Good Old Gold for the setting. Can you go to a local jewelry store and try it on? That would help because seeing the ring in person can give you an idea if you like the setting or what type of setting looks best. If you like it can you send the setting to WF for them to set it? Whiteflash does make beautiful settings though!!

if she is not hung up on the Ritani name, and itsn''t insistant that it be "designer label" then I would see what WF could do for you. They''ve done countless beautiful pieces for PSers on here,myself included...... they really do awesome work. You''ll save money, have peace of mind about your stone, and she''ll get what she wants in the end ultimately.

Maybe you could ask WF if you could put a "surprise" diamond somewhere....something to make it slightly different from the Ritani, and yet special to her at the same time??????

just my opinion.......let us knwo what you decide! good luck!

I think I''m going to go ahead and see what Whiteflash comes up with. Worst case scenario I''m out $250 for the CAD design. Being that I''ve never seen the above setting in person, nor am I able to, it''s really hard to judge.

I''m sure WF could do a great rendition. Or, if you want the Ritani setting, Pearlman''s will cover the stone while setting it.

I agree with you Jetmal... Getting one made special for her means a lot, and a surprise diamond will make it all that much more special!! I''m sure that they can do something very similar for you, and then you won''t have the worry of transporting the stone, dealing with two different vendors, etc... Please let us know what you decide!

sorry to be an a$$ but I have this crazy pet peeve...

weary = tired
wary = cautious

drives me crazy that people have misused this word so much it is now actually accepted as the norm. grrrr

ok - back to our regularly scheduled programming!

I was recently in the same boat as you. I bought my diamond from exceldiamonds.com and I bought the Ritani setting from BillBarnes.com (I had BillBarnes.com price match customs jewelers to get the best price). I had the diamond appraised first loose and then mailed it to have it set. Then I will have it appraised again when it is complete. I believe, but I am not sure, that whoever sells you the setting will need to have the diamond in order to get the halo correct. They may even send it to Ritani and have them set it.
