I''m hoping to get some advice on a possible setting change for an emerald cut diamond. I''m quite new to this so I apologize if I make any errors. I recently got engaged in February and my fiance and I are planning a May 09 wedding. We''ve begun looking at wedding bands and in that search I''ve actually looked at a possible new setting for my engagement ring. My FI picked the ring without me having any clue! We had never talked about rings and I had never really looked a e rings. So I didn''t know what i wanted and neither did he! The ring he picked out is an emerald cut diamond (.62, H, VS2, 6.54 x 3.98 x 2.75mm) set with 3 tapered baguette sidestones on each side. It is a platinum setting. I''m considering changing the setting because it''s difficult to find a band i like with my current setting and it also has more metal in the setting than i prefer - I''d prefer it to be more diamonds.
I''m looking at a pave halo setting that is quite similar to mimzy''s setting.
Here''s the link from her post:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/beverly-k-ec-halo-ering-and-its-all-mine.73962/.

The new setting is from a local jeweler. I was told that they could make the setting to fit my diamond and would switch my setting out at no cost. Also, the new setting would be 14K gold instead of platinum like i currently have.
My question is....do you think a pave halo setting like this would overpower my .62 diamond? Am I better off to just keep it in it''s current setting?
Advice please!

Also, here''s one more picture of the current setting. I think this one might be a bit more clear....

I think the halo setting would be more delicate looking than your current set, not overpowering at all. There is quite a bit of metal on your baguettes that I find distracting. If you can make the switch for no cost, and you like the halo, go for it.

That is a really unique setting! It''s a very different style from the halo pave; this looks more contemporary and the halo looks more antique to me. I agree that there''s a little too much metal around the baguettes (the rest of it isn''t overpowering at all). Could they try to shave down the bars holding the baguettes instead of a full reset? Or maybe replace the 3 baguettes with a single tapered baguette on each side, maybe something like this, except with pave in the band instead of channel-set diamonds?

I think your stone would look stunning in a halo. And if your jeweler can do it at no extra cost...that''s even better! I say go for it!!!

thanks for the comments guys!
jstarfireb - i totally agree with you...it is a very unique setting, but i too don''t really like how there is so much metal holding the baguettes.
Also, the space between that metal and the center diamond is a bit awkward.
do you think it''s possible to rework this setting to address those issues?
i''m just not sure what i''d end up with!

I tend to like more delicate items and jewelry...that''s why i was thinking about the halo settings. plus the diamonds are just really beautiful in those settings. My only concern really was that with my diamond being a .62 that a halo could possibly overpower it. i''d still like it to be a prominent feature, you know?

Also, I''m afraid my sentence earlier wasn''t clear. When i said that the jeweler would switch the diamond at no cost i meant switching the actual diamond into the new setting. The new setting would be $2200 BUT that''s including a matching wedding band. I''ve thought about possibly keeping this setting and putting a sapphire in it for a right hand ring. What do you guys think?

here''s a few more pictures of the current setting. one of the profile and one hand shot. i wish i had pictures of the new possible setting but i don''t! Like i said before though, it is very very similar to mimzy''s https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/beverly-k-ec-halo-ering-and-its-all-mine.73962/

Good question; you''d have to ask your jeweler. But it seems like you''re leaning toward a totally new setting (the halo), so go with what you love, provided your fiance isn''t too upset with the change! I was just trying to think of a way you could keep the original with a few tweaks, and that might preserve the sentimental value of the original.

For what it''s worth, I think that size of center stone would be lovely in the new setting, and a halo would really make it look huge!
