I am having an ering setting made to the specifications of the diamond we have selected.

Question: If I want to upgrade my diamond from 1.28 carats to 1.75 or 2 carats in the future or to 1.50 let''s say, in the maybe nearer future

- would it be possible to still have the stone set in this setting or
- would I have to get a new setting entirely or
- does it depend on the setting?

Thanks for any insight/info you are able to share ...

I think that it would depend on the setting. Is the head a peg head, or is it a part of the ring?

Ditto. If it is a huge change to the ring then it may hurt the intergrity of the setting. Which setting did you want? btw, how exciting!

Thanks Skippy! It is exciting ... It''s a Simon G setting. My jeweler just let me know today that it is in!

Since both her and the bf have decided to attempt to exclude me from the rest of the process ...

I may have to wait to see it.

The bf and I were considering a larger stone, however, the 1.28 E VS2 AGS 0 stone we found was so perfect that we decided to forsake a bit of size right now for the quality of this stone. I just think that this setting may be quite sentimental to me so I wanted to see if it would be possible to keep it if we do decide to upgrade the diamond size in the future.

it''s going to depend on the setting. some will allow for a slightly bigger stone, other''s won''t. my guess is your''s won''t be able to handle a huge upgrade b/c it''s being made around your stone.

Okay ... oh well I guess we can figure out how much larger it can accomodate without causing problems and then determine whether or not it would be viable.

Thank you, Mrs Salvo! Appreciate the response!

If it''s part of the ring; it can probably take a little larger diamond. If they can change out the head; it should be fine. I can''t wait to see it.

I can''t wait to see it either! No telling how long I will have to wait though.

I hope, if we wanted to, we would at least have the option to upgrade the diamond in the future ... Not a concern at this point but with the quick and acute onset of DSS nowadays, there really is no telling when I may become afflicted.
