I am desperately trying to figure out what setting to get. Ultimately I don''t want to spend over $1000 on the setting, to allow for more $$ to be spent on the stone. We''re looking at a stone aroun 1.15 to 1.2 and my major dilema is do I go with a plain solitaire and fovorites include:

- legato sleek line by WF http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/-Legato--Sleek-Line_1118.htm
- Knox Inspiration (love the double prongs) http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=200&rn=797&action=show_detail
- Knox Silk http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=200&rn=1146&action=show_detail
- Knox Antique Solitaire http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=264&rn=1053&action=show_detail

but part of my wants something a little different than a simple solitaire.

- Knox Legacy http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=200&rn=920&action=show_detail
- Knox Always http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=200&rn=455&action=show_detail
What I do know is that I like a thin band (no more than 3 mm)

What regrest might people have with getting a plain solitaire and what regrets might someone have by NOT getting a simple solitaire?

Choosing a setting is not easy!!! There are too many decisions to make!

Thanks in advance for your opinions and feedback!

I have a rb and two trillion sides. I have seen a lot of plain solitaires and then they add a diamond wedding band. Go to SMTR and there are a lot of people who have done that lately. It all depends on what you like. I wish I could help you better. I think the solitaire is classic and timeless. best wishes

Maybe looking through this thread may help you figure out what you like best. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/the-forum-engagement-ring-folder-eye-candy.5429/

Regrets re plain solitaire: No pave.
Regrets re non-plain solitaire: In Lynn B''s wise wors, you notice the ring and not the stone.

I have a split shank with pave diamonds. I don''t have any regrets about not getting a plain solitaire. I''ve never been a plain solitaire kind of girl. Many people say that sidestones detract from the center stone, but I think if done well and with small stones it can actually highlight the center stone. I only thing I don''t like is that occassionally I have to replace a stone. It''s only about $20 to do it, but it''s a little tedius. This has happened once in a year of wearing the ring.

I LOVE that Knox Antique Solitaire!! It's exactly what I was looking for (and never found!) before I decided to switch to a 5 stone.

Regrets, sorry I have none to offer. I don't have my ring yet and you won't see any part of the band from the top anyways, so I"m not help there

ETA: oops, I mean no help there. My fingers are slowing down, time for bed!

Thanks for your tips on regrets. I have gone through the SMTR forum many times in recent years and both solitaires and non-solitaires are SO beautiful!!!

Any thoughts on the settings I''m looking at OR are there some others out there that I might be missing?

I wanted a solitaire, but I also wanted something additional, so I went for surprise diamonds, like the ones in the Knox Inspiration. I have absolutely no regrets. I don''t have to worry about losing pave diamonds in the band, and the attention is immediately drawn to my center stone, but when I look at the sides of my ring, I see some extra sparkle!

Of your selections, I adore the Legato Sleek Line...it''s my absolute favorite for a simple solitaire. If you want a little added bling, the Inspiration and Legacy are my choices...love the double prongs, tapered shank, and surprise diamonds!

If you do go with the surprise diamond idea, Scott Kay makes some gorgeous settings. They''re over budget, but take a look at Pearlman''s to get some more ideas.

About the Legato Sleek Line...

I know the band width is around 2-3 mm but does anyone know how thick the band is? Many bands tend to be quite thick and this is really uncomfortable on me. I prefer a really flat band.
