Can you set Setting a square hearts and arrows with princess prongs or six prongs?

I don''t feel secure with just four prongs but I guess you can''t do six with this stone. Also, I''d love it if it could have the princess prongs, as this emphasizes the square shape but I guess that won''t work either.

What''s the most secure way to set a square h & a?

In a well made setting, just about any type should be secure. How about ribbon prongs? I think that would look nice.

Second pic.

The princess cut has sharp corners which is why it has those corner-prong-thingies (experts help me out here)... the square Hearts and Arrows does not have sharp corners, it looks to be more of a softened square... so I'm not thinkin' those would work. I have seen the prongs that look like they were made in 3 sections so from the top view of the diamond it is kinda triangular in shape which gives a more pointy look (anyone know what I'm talkin' about? I don't have a pic off-hand_.

If you go with a good vendor and insure the ring, then no worries.

ETA: The ribbon prongs are a nice choice.

How about double prongs (2 prongs on each corner) to help emphasise the corners?

I had no idea there were so many prong choices! Does anyone have comparison pics? Thanks.

My ring has eight prongs and I adore it. In my eyes, they don''t detract from the diamond at all.

Here''s another (and actual) photo of mine; the previous photo is one I snagged from Tacori''s site.

In the picture Ellen posted above my previous post, the top picture shows double prongs on an Old Mine Cut diamond and the lower picture shows ribbon prongs on a cushion stone.

Heres a double prong head (I think what Chrono was descrining):

When I just read Chrono''s post I was thinking of that very pic that I had just seen. Personally, I prefer prongs that show off the clipped corners rather than making the corners appear pointy.

When I was discussing how I love the double prong, it was mentioned that for smaller stones (mine''s .99) that double prongs may not work... so best to check if it will work before you are set on it.

Excellent. Are the double prongs lots more secure than just four prongs? Would it be as secure as six prongs in a round setting, do you think? It is very pretty and seems to help emphasize the square shape. Thank you dear knowledgable people. :)

I have been searching here on prongs for the last few weeks, and I know I read somewhere that double prongs were no more sturdier than single. That they are more for the aesthetic value. Whether that''s really true or not, I have no idea.

And I''ve heard appraisers on here say, if well made, 6 were no better than 4.

It''s true that more prongs does not mean it''s more sturdier. My princess ER has single claws over the tips (by Mege) and I asked him the same thing if more is safer. It''s not he said "if done right, 4 prongs is as safe as double prongs/claws". I like single prongs instead of the v tip as it''s not so bulky looking.

My princess is obviously not a clipped corner H&A square princess but here''s a prong option (my ER).
