So, I know there have been discussions on the antique board but they haven't gotten much action. I am curious, R and D mentioned that J Anistons huge oval cut diamond doesn't have a backing but to me it looks different, maybe because it isn't a clear stone the way cathy Waterman's are set? In a large fancy shape (oval or cushion), have you seen modern day settings with backings? It is hard to find or tell exactly what is going on in a lot of these rings. ANY help, photos, links, guidance are appreciated. Thanks as always PS.

Very interested in this topic also, as I just purchased a cushion rose cut diamond myself. :wavey:

Oh girl! Would love to chat! I just emailed you ;-)

Mine probably isn't exactly SS material. The diamond is dark gray with some slight translucence. My desire was for a dark (vs white) center stone with an edgy, monochromatic feel to it. Something fun. Diamond is a rose cut cushion and measures about 7.5 x 6.5 x 4.4mm, just over 2ct. I am thinking about flanking it with white half moons, maybe color, or maybe none at all. Haven't decided yet, and I likely won't until I have it in hand and finish the other projects I have in flight.

But here is a pic of it for now. It is exactly what I wanted, though I'm sure some will scratch their heads at me. Photos are from the seller (onegarnetgirl).

Yes! Thank you DS-drool on a daily basis, following SS Instagram!

Jen- I love your stone, so unique!

Jenn, I love your stone! That color works very well in a rose cut!

Thank you both. I like the look of rose cuts but I am not keen on seeing my finger through them so this was perfect for me. And I kept going back to this particular one for the edgy-ness of it.

It will be a fun ring when I get around to setting it. ;)

Wow, Jocojenn!!! This is such a cool stone
I cannot wait to see how you will set it. It's so cool and edgy and new classic.

Since I am obsessed with Jen Aniston's rose cut, I am always looking for shots of it online and found this side shot the other day. It appears to be prong set. Posting a side shot of single stone rose cut where you can see there is nothing under the stone.

Here is a SS ring that is very similar to the one diamondseeker posted. I think being able to see through the stone depends on the size and the shape and the faceting. You could see through mine at times, but not all the time, depending on the lighting. Most of you know I returned my rose cut ring due to the outer stones falling out repeatedly. I was told there was no fix for that other than completely remaking the ring with more prongs, bezels, etc. When I get a new rose cut, I think I will go for a soitaire, but I too worry about how to set it and how to set it securely/safely. Good luck with your quest!

Here is my old ring. I miss her so badly!

Ooooooooh... I like that stone! For some reason I am seeing a white gold/platinum setting with neon bright sidestones. Perhaps blue sapphires. I love how naturally beautiful it is.

derbygal! I absolutely adored your ring-stunning! The stone I am considering is an oval transparent rose cut-warmer color though. I absolutely love Jen's ring and I never saw the shot, thanks for sharing-gorgeous!
