Set my mind at ease, please!

Hi!

First, I wanted to say thank you all for posting such terrific information on this forum. I just bought a stone for my girlfriend''s engagement ring and I couldn''t have navigated the complexities without your help. For example, I NEVER would have known the importance of GIA certification versus EGL!

The stone I purchased is a 2.06 ct H VVS2 with a supposedly "Signature Ideal" cut, although as I also discovered from information on this board, the www.gemappraisers.com only rates the cut at a 2A. Unfortunately, I didn''t get that information until AFTER I bought the stone and now I''m feeling like I got ripped off at $13,560. The information for the stone is below. It is GIA certified. I would really appreciate if a knowledgable expert out there might be able to put my mind at ease a bit and assure me that I at least paid less than what I''d find at a local jeweler. I''m concerned that the H color will show when it''s set in platinum and she compares it to friends who might have a colorless stone. Any insights would be greatly appreciated and save me an ulcer. Sorry, I wish I could put your mind at ease but I don''t know much about princess stones.
As far as the color; I don''t think an H will be an issue.

I hope someone else chimes in about the Princess.
Otherwise if it''s a done deal than enjoy it- I''m sure she''ll love it.

I am by no means an expert, but I can tell you from my own recent Princess-buying experience, I would be somewhat concerned with the numbers you posted for depth and table. As very general rules of thumb, you want your depth below 75% (more like below 73%), and table a few points lower than that, usually 67-72%.

Now granted, and to echo the posts of many others on these forums, the numbers alone can certainly obscure the beauty your eye may perceive. If you can post an IdealScope image and a Sarin report, I''m sure the experts will have better feedback.

But I have a RB diamond H color set in platinum. It is 100% white, no worries, OK?

Read the article written by Pauil Antwerp on the home page. You have to look in the black box under AGS Cut grading of Princess cuts.

You may also want to search posts he has made about princess cuts.

Then get back on the thread with what you thought of it.

Thanks all so much for the input. It is too late now. I''m just praying the diamond will look as good to her as it does to me! I guess as long as the color isn''t an issue and I know I won''t have any problems with clarity, I can live with it.

I tried the article on the home page as suggested by RockDoc, but it only made me depressed seeing the optimum table at 60% vs. my 75%. I''m only thankful that my girlfriend doesnt'' know what any of that means. TO her, if it looks white, has over 2 carats, and no inclusions, I think I''m in good shape as long as it has some sparkle, which it appears to, at least to my untrained eye.

As for my proposal...I''m getting her a new puppy in two weeks, I''m tying the ring in a bow around the puppies neck, so the first time she sees it, she''ll get a surprise. Keep me in your prayers!

I would have bet on F/G - VS1/2 rather than H/VVS... but that does not seem to save any of the expense. Quite on the contrary. And even without the "BN Singnature" nod, the princess cuts with "preffered proportions " (by AGA) come at a premium.

Since there is some return policy, you can always have some reality check before the sale becomes final.

With the smaller tables, the AGS 0 princess cuts will likely look quite distinct from the traditional princess cuts anyway. Perhaps more like the current "Superbcert" princesses cut with tables below 60%... but deep. For what that matters.
