It has potential.

Is this from an online vendor? and can you get an IS or Sarin report for it? The angles are closing in on steep/deep, which can mean leakage. But if this is graded by GIA, and I am presuming it is, they round numbers, so what we see may not be what we''d really get. Could be better, could be worse.

Thanks.

Champ:

Pass on this stone. I think you can do better. Look at my other posts, I ended up finding a 2.09 for 13,600 that ranked 1.6 on HCA and was an I si2.

I''d personally try to go bigger than 1.72 and drop the vs2 to si1 or maybe even an eye clean si2.

Even if you don''t want to go 2ct, I think you can _at least_ get a better cut stone than this.

Most people who I''d trust to give me good advice gave me the following priorities for diamond attributes:

1) Size
2) Sparkle (cut)
3) color
4) clarity

If I were you, I''d take a hard look at how low down the color scale I was willing to go, drop clarity to si2, and go as big as you can while maintaining an excellent light return. Look for AGS stones possibly triple 0

For what it''s worth, I think VS2 is very nice for an engagement ring. I think it is great for people to love all clarities of diamonds. It is just personal preference. So don''t let people sway you from what YOU want or you might be sorry later!

Thanks for all the advice, and after a long and hard search process, I selected this diamond. It truly is based on personal preference and I love the ''cut adviser'' tool, but let''s be honest; any time you buy a diamond, the jeweler must take into consideration the physical dimensions of the diamond and light reflection and charge you an appropriate amount of money. I have realized during my search process that nothing comes free or unnoticed! The diamond I selected looks great, and it scored a 2.4 - a very good in all four categories. I decided to go with the diamond because in reality, it is only .4 away from an Excellent rating and it looks great.

In fact it might be excellent in all four categories. with a 41 degree paviliion angle I think the general word was that you usually wanted a somewhat smaller angle. however, 35 degrees can display ideal performance as well, its just a matter of how precisecly it was cut. So if you are saying you have looked at several and this bad boy is the winner, I suppose we can only assume this one was cut masterfully, in which case those angles are not a problem at all, and I believe the author of HCA has said as much hiself (though obviously not being him you would have to recheck what he has said to be 100% sure on that). But of course when creating a tool such as that you cant account for every individual facet, and so per the given angles those angles have more risk than others, thus meaning that it would score lower becasue on average those numbers would have negative light performance impacts. So, fortunately, and assuming, yours doesnt have those problems some do, Very well done! She is going to be happy!

Congrats! Come back and post pics if you can.

Can''t wait to see the pictures and hear of her reaction. What setting are you going to put it in?

Thanks for the discussion and support. I started a new thread for the setting which can be found
HERE (Setting). I had a few more questions concerning the setting. Check it out!
