I’m in the planning stage for a new project ( this is not a question to cause any controversy ). By nature, I’m a person
that does not have a great deal of patience. What vendor for custom work has the best turnaround time? I am
speaking about a quality piece (heirloom). Thanks

Im sure they all wax and wane thruout the year somewhat?
Call them. Be up front. I’m sure they will tell you.

Price, excellence in customer service (including communication and timeliness), excellence in design and execution. You will not get all three - unless you get lucky, so pick two guarantees.

What type of piece are you looking to have made?
Do you already have stones?
How much are you looking to spend?
Where are you located?

Thanks for the fast response. I’ve got a milestone anniversary coming up,
a platinum ring is what I have in mind. I don’t think I want to dismantle
any of my jewelry. I realize that the Holiday Season is a bad time to
have projects in the works. I have a LM ring that I’ve worn for years and has held up wonderfully. My dream ring would be a three stone, blue or purple
sapphire as the center stone. I live near Atlanta. I want a quality sapphire.
$$$ is debatable.
Thanks

BTW, I’ve never had a custom made item...the Leon Mege ring was a ready
made and purchased from him directly. This in my 30th anniversary I’m
speaking of ( middle of 2020).

Sapphire, platinum mount, heirloom quality.

Agree with @Rfisher - best thing to do is to talk with your choice of jeweller and confirm you're both on the same page re. timelines and communication needs.

My personal recommendations - others may have more (I am recommending only vendors I have personal experience with).

Erika Winters.
Very attentive - no details will ever slip through the cracks. Zero hand-holding/micromanagement required on your part. Designer with a specific aesthetic. Mix of hand-forging and casting. Consistently delivers on-schedule. Happy to work with out-of-state clients. Pricey.

Burdeen's.
Very attentive designers. Less specific aesthetic. No hand-holding/micromanagement required once design is finalized, but since they don't specialize in a particular look and feel more communication will be required up-front to iron out design details. Mix of hand-forging and casting. Consistently delivers on-schedule. Happy to work with out-of-state clients. Pricey.

Diamonds by Lauren.
Talk with David directly. Modern aesthetic. Again, once details are finalized, no hand-holding necessary. Excellent "follow-up" care. Consistently delivers on-schedule. Happy to work with out of state clients. Can help source your stone if desired. Mix of hand-forging and casting. Top bench will be pricey.

Steven Kirsch.
Modern aesthetic. Again, once details are finalized, no hand-holding necessary. Consistently delivers on-schedule, but lead time may be longer - call to inquire. Happy to work with out of state clients. Pricey.

By "pricey" I mean 3-8+k for the setting alone, depending on what style you choose.

I know lead times for Victor Canera and Leon Mege are usually rather long, so not adding them to this list though they are otherwise-excellent fits.

My sapphire is from Finewater gems and my diamonds are from high performance diamonds, whose luxe bench did my setting. It’s platinum and the HPD turnaround was quick. Gary at Finewater usually overnights the gems, so in theory, you could have it all done within a month, depending on what work schedule HPD has.

Based on my two experiences with Victor Canera, he meets all 3 criteria. But again definitely talk to Victor directly.

I hope that more people recognize how outstanding HPD's bench is. I never think of them as someone that does settings, but from what I've seen their work is top notch.

My ring is definitely heirloom quality.

And who can argue with Crafted by infinity side stones??
