OK, I don't have the funds yet....but, I'm saving up to set my 1.72 ct. Barry beauty. I've had this gorgeous tourmaline since last year and I want to WEAR IT. I'm thinking a ring and need ideas. Barry's photo is great, but it does not capture the sparkly beauty of this gemstone. Ideas, please? Oh, it is 7.5 mm and I may use this as my new engagement/wedding ring.

I think it'll look great in anything!

I really like the Vatche swan, as well as Sally's ever classic lotus setting.

Were you thinking more solitaire or 3 stone or halo etc?

High karat yellow gold will really bring out the blue.

I second both MtG and TL: a lotus-ey or flowerlike setting in high karat yellow gold. Have you looked at JbEG's new Gabbie setting?

I second/third high karat yellow gold or if you are adventurous, rose gold!

Oh yes, rose gold would be gorgeous, too. :appl:

I fourth rose gold! It would bring out the gorgeous color of that stone. Jealous jealous!

I just finished a couple of rose gold projects so I'm slightly biased  However, based on what I see in the picture, you may be better off going with a high carat yellow gold instead. don't get me wrong, I love rose gold, at least the higher carat stuff, but I also find it to be a bit limiting in what I want to wear it with.

I also think it would look swoonworthy in a vatche swan if you go the solitaire route!

Those Erica Grace settings are beautiful.
I thought of a simple white gold solitaire when I see the stone, like the sea under overcasted weather. Yellow gold is probably more suitable to bring out the blue though.

Oh, I just LOVE that JbEG ring that Aoife posted.... Oh wouldn't that be gorgeous with that color Tourmaline!

My head is swimming with your suggestions....thank you SO much!!!! My DH and I went on a Honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas and this tourmaline reminds me of the ocean water there. Our 13th wedding anniversary is Valentine's Day.

Happy Anniversary to you and your husband Lori. Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation to celebrate, and this tourmaline will remind you of that.

Gorgeous Lori! I love the color! JD and I went on a super short cruise to the Bahamas too, and you're right, the ocean did look like that! I like the idea of setting it in the Gabbie, possibly w/rg prongs, the rest white.

Budget?

DH and I are on a tight budget right now and we're laying low for this anniversary. I have no idea of a budget for this ring yet. That's why I would like to get some serious ideas to work toward. As you know, I'm known for sitting on my gemstones....or selling them. This one is a keeper and it has such fire with Barry's "chunky" facets.
