Hihi Mara!
Yes, I dreamt a lot of times about this diamond!
But...

The incusion plot looks increadibly bad, the color would make quite a few wander... but who cares!!!! That item is as wide as my ring finger and would shame my desk lamp...

Well, too bad the scope pictures are not of the original stone: the arrows seem shaped a tad different than in the H&A posted on GOG's site and around here. Do you know wether the Eight Star cut does this consistently? Do they have a different model than H&A?

Given this, why would eight star take the time to cut this diamond in the first place?

IMO, I think the stone is so big that it doesn't look too good. Or maybe the it's because of the setting.... it's hard to make a HUGE stone set in a way where it's not awkward..

Tho that might make an awsome pendant??? haha...

Yuk! it's so big that it looks disgusting.

Mara, are you sure this fetish for large stones hasn't turned into something much more sinister?

'Cause that cut makes the poor yellowish, included rough POP! And the maker knows it.... as we do too. Besides, Eight Star does not specialize in top color and clarity diamonds, all about them is the awesome cut quality. I'd say...

Whatever do you mean Toska?!

I know the diamond is huge, but in the right setting I think it could look beautiful. That setting I think it's in is one of those temporary claw settings...not a real one. From what I can see anyway. It just holds the diamond so one can wear it but the diamond is not set.

Anyhow, that said...the diamond IS TOO BIG FOR ME. Yes you heard me say it and it's on paper (kinda). But it still was amazing to see it on someone's hand! You don't really get a feel for how large 4c can be until you see it dangling (literally) on someone's hand.

I also wondered why 8* would cut a J SI with a very included plot in such a large size--especially since they only cut something like 200 stones a year. But who knows. Obviously someone loved it enough to buy it!

Stephan, when are you getting your stone?! Can't wait to see pictures.

BLASPHEMY.....I don't believe it........!

Who are YOU, and where did you hide MARA??? LOL

eye candy....no. It's too big but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

*All* of Jonathan's plots, other than the IF ones, look yucky since they're blown up so big. I seriously doubt any of us would see any inclusions in real life.

Ah yes, the famous 'Star of New York'. Many people swooned over this one I believe.

I actually thought it was interesting to look at. HUGE, yes, but interesting. Even though the inclusions plot was busy, the cut masked a lot in the pics. I wonder how much shows, live and in person?? Wonder if Jonathan would loan it to me for a quick preview??

Oh Jonathan.....

Hi Mara!

I will be back in Belgium for the end of February, as you know I'm in Saigon now.

But if Paul-Antwerp can find a rough stone to cut, I will do a bank wire to pay a little part of the diamond, because it's a big stone and a color difficult to sell, so he needs a garantee.

It's a long time ago that I don't see Paul on this forum.

When he finds the right rough, I have to wait a couple of month because the stone has to be cut and must be send to the US for GIA certification.

I am so exited!

Only question Mara, if Paul cuts the stone and it doesn't get an EX/EX from the GIA, what will happen?

So happy that we can all talk about our passion, our fears, our hesitations on this forum!

Thanks Pricescope!

Mara,

You know I love big e-rings but this one I do not like. Eightstar - shmeightstar!!! It might have a great cut but I think the stone looks tea colored!!! Even the cut cannot mask that color. This is where - atleast for me - I would go for a balance of the 4 C's, Also, even though the cut could mask some of the inclusions....there are just so many and yucky ones!!! Since 4 cts are rare, this is a stone people would gawk at and I would be afraid they would definitely notice the color and the flaws. I suppose someone will purchase this and love it -

I also agree that it is surprising that 8* would cut a (J) SI1 stone - looks more like SI2 or lower. Maybe it was a practice stone???? During my search I looked at a 4ct. (I) VS2 (GIA) good stats,,,,Yellow!!!!!! The larger the stone the more color you notice. For me ..not worth it , for Joe Shmoe perhaps the find of a lifetime! Cheers!

The thing is, Steph...this stone was probably pretty expensive, being an 8* and all. Kind of an odd bird. It's in the Educational Stone area, so it must be sold already...it's no longer for sale. This I believe is the stone that Jonathan has on the GOG homepage. It's a honker! The 'tea' color and inclusions non-withstanding, I was talking more about the enormity of it's SIZE. Wow.

Stephan, I am sure that if the stone comes back VG/EX or similar that you will love it just as much as if it was EX/EX
9.gif
Though if that is a strict requirement, I thought that Paul was going to cut it using his super-ideal technique...so shouldn't be worries there? Is this an investment stone or just a labor of love?

Yes that stone is long gone. A very *photogenic* stone I would add. Currently the diamond on our homepage is a 7.52ct H VVS Hearts & Arrows we had here. It too is history. Those are some serious eye candy indeed! We have another 4ct H VS1 here that is equally as beautiful if not moreso which may soon be history too.

Mara... probs with size? Think of all the money you'll save in flashlights!!!

Hi Mara !

I want to buy this stone, not as an investment, only because I am passioned.
Of course, I will not see the difference between an EX/VG and an EX/EX, it's only in my head...
I think, if there has to be a VG, I would prefer it for the polish.
I hope that the symmetry will be EX.
