I''ll be the first to say that ECs are VERY HARD to photograph, and most of the time they come out quite dark in pictures. But that one is particularly bad...so either the photographer needs serious help, or that diamond''s cut is nasssssssssssshty.

Woweee....that looks AWFUL! Surely they would have used better pictures if getting them were possible?

I'd be curious to hear from the experts WHY this EC looks like this. Is there something in the GIA report that provides a clue???

Here's a picture of the stone in question:

I did not think step cuts got bow ties...

i have a picture book of diamond faults. in one picture there is an emerald cut with a bow tie and another of a black looking maltese cross in two badly cut emerald cuts.

i would love to see this diamond in person. maybe it is not photographing well?

Who in their right mind would buy that thing based off the photo?????

Maybe it does look better in person, but jeesh, things on e-bay get purchased based on the way they look in the pictures and you'd have to be... well, I don't know what you'd have to be... crazy? stupid? what? to buy a diamond that looked that that!

Even if I called them up or e-mailed them and got all the reassurances in the world about how magnificant it would look in person I still don't think I could plunk down a dime for that one!

When selling something, you'd think you'd post the best possible picture so as to wet the appetite of potential buyers. These photos make me think that this IS the best picture they could get. All I can say is... eeww!

Thought you guys might find this interesting, and possibly explanitory. I was doing a photo shoot just now with my EC, as a member wanted to see it. I''ve never photographed it before, and look what turned up. A Bad vs. Good pic.

Just a bit of difference. lol

huh that''s interesting....experts?

I also have trouble photographing my EC but I have NEVER got those results. Hmmm...not very attractive....

I must of just got lucky then, as I got 6 like that, both head on and side view. lol

Ellen, do you have any that shows the step cutting clearly?

I wonder if it''s cut really deep? for weight and not cut quality??

I got a couple that are ok. But they would need to be cropped and resized, which I haven''t attempted to do yet on my pics, and I''m getting ready for work. If I figure it out I''ll post them.
