What a nightmare. I was so excited today to receive my bling and my daughter''s push present, but was annoyed that my pendant wasn''t in the setting I wanted. Boy was I catapulted back into reality when I got home and read my email. It put a sad and somber perspective back into my life.

Most of you know that I am on the Board of "Kids for Peace" a non-profit dedicated to teaching peace through love and action. We were founded by a former school teacher and an amazing young woman, Danielle. Danielle is in her 2nd year at Harvard and was just in town last Thursday to be the key note speaker at our first Legacy Society fundraiser.

Today she is flying back because her older brother (23) was found murdered this morning in Annapolis MD. I don''t know much about the circumstances, but my heart is breaking. Danielle has dedicated her life to conflict resolution and teaching peace to break our human cycle of violence. Discovering the news that her brother was senselessly killed during an act of violence is unfathomable for me.

In the meantime, Danielle has requested prayers for all. Her text said, "Please pray for my family, the killer and that person''s family. Pray all will be blessed with peace." She is an incredible young woman.

My thoughts are going out to Danielle and her family.

Oh Miracle that''s awful. I''ll be thinking of her and her family.

prayers outgoing

One day I hope I can be as forgiving and loving and peaceful as her newest communication:

Dear friends, thank you for your continued prayers for peace. My family can feel them, and I hope that my brother''s friends, his murderer, and that person''s family are transformed by them as well. "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me." Love, Danielle

OMG that is so terrible sending prayers and dust her way

- she sounds like an incredible woman I don''t think I could be as compasionate as her but I aplaud her for being able to be.

I agree wholeheartedly.

My thoughts are with her. That is awful.

What a horrible thing to happen. I''m sending healing thoughts out.

I wish the world had more people like your friend Danielle. It takes an amazing person to be able to see that she is not the only person suffering in this tragedy. It is too easy to forget that the person who committed this act has a family that have also been effected.

In horrible situations like that it is too easy to become eaten up by hate and it seems as though your friend is already taking a positive road that is going to help her deal with her grief. Everybody should be so fortunate to have such an open heart that allows them to forgive so readily and rebuild their lives.

I''m sure I didn''t quite express what I wanted...but I am keeping your friend and all those involved in my prayers.

:) Alice

Oh my gosh, Miracles. I can''t believe this. Major prayers going out to everybody involved.

Thoughts and prayers heading out to all involved.

miracles - she is a far more forgiving woman than I. My thoughts are with them.

Oh Miracles, that''s horrible. I can''t even imagine. I will be keeping Danielle and her family in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts are outgoing to Danielle, her family, and everyone affected by this tragedy. I am sincerely impressed by Danielle''s attitude and the grace with which she is handling this.

That''s terrible - my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family during this difficult time. She really does sound like a wonderful woman, much more compassionate and understanding than I think I could be.

what a horrible thing

She is such a strong and compassionate woman of her years! My prayers are with her

Wow, that is terrible. My thoughts are going out to her and the family.

It gives me chills. I know that murder is murder and you see it on the news, but it is completely different when it involves someone you know. Annapolis MD is only about 30 minutes from where I sit at this moment. Really hits home, you know?

I can''t imagine what she must be feeling and still she is thoughtful of the murderer and the murderers family. What a lady.

Oh goodness..thats just awful. My thoughts are with the family...what a tragic shame.

Oh how awful! My thoughts and prayers to the family.

Oh, Miracles. That''s awful. My heart goes out to this young woman and her family. Sending prayers of peace her way.

That is so sad. My thoughts are with this strong woman and her family.

Prayer outgoing! Wow, she is amazing. I hope I could be as forgiving as her.

To demonstrate what an amazing young woman and her family exemplify, read this by Danielle:

"While we are all deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of Ken Gram, UCSC '09, we are blessed by the memories we have of his fun and quirky spirit.

To honor that spirit that impacted so many lives, we'd like to have a celebration that in his words would be "epic."

Please join Kenny's friends and family for a bonfire on the beach.

Here are the details:
1. Clothing: No black, unless black is a color that suits your inner soul. Instead, please wear either an outfit that you think most represents who you are (tiedye, Hawaiian shirts, tight or loose clothing all welcome) OR channel an alterego for the night (come as a court jester, Obama, Carmen San Diego, Gandhi, a King or Queen, whatever you've always wanted to be, but never quite could).
2. Music and art: Ken was a creative being, so let us take this opportunity to express what's in our hearts too! If you play guitar, please bring it, if you have drums, we'd love to have a drum circle, if you're an artist, poet, writer, dancer, or anything else, come bring your full self and share your talents with others.
3. Stories, gratitude, and wishes for the world: All who feel so inspired will be invited to share a story with the group and give thanks. We will also write wishes for the world and place them in the bonfire.
We hope that this event honors Ken. My brother was among the first volunteers in Kids for Peace, and cherished his time working for the Department of Peace campaign. He was a sweet soul, and a vibrant one. Let us celebrate him together by celebrating those he loved."

I am so blessed to know this woman and her family.

That''s beautiful. That woman (and she really is a woman) has an attitude and outlook to aspire to. I wish that kind of spirit was something you could teach - I''d be first in line.

Lots of prayers for everyone involved. Wow, that event sounds amazing, what a celebration!

what a horrid, horrid person

my thoughts are with danielle, her family, and anyone else her brothers life had touched.

May your friends find peace. Other words fail me.
