Hi everyone,

Last night my grandfather passed away. This is a challenging time because I''m not a very religious person, however, am spiritual so I''m not sure how to approach all this. . .

I''m hoping he rests in peace and am asking that thoughts of peace be sent out to him.

Thanks to those who can take a minute out to wish him a graceful passage to whatever is out there after we die.

I am so sorry to hear that your grandfather has passed. I know it was a huge loss to me when my Nanny died.

Grandparents are sooooo special. He''s gone on to a better place, or so I like to believe... He''d want to know that you are ok.. I think that''s the best thing you can do for him...

Focus on the times you had with him, and hold them close to your heart.

Layla - I'm sorry you're having to go through this as well. My thoughts go out to you and your family!

Thank you everyone for your help in sending peaceful thoughts. It means a lot to me to have you all write here in this thread. . .

It's going to be a tough few weeks because I always looked forward to my birthday card from my grandpa. He was the one who always remembered every year even when he became really sick.

My kids are so young. Again, they're experiencing the passing of a relative and do not know what's going on. My husband's dad passed away about 1.5 years ago (wow, so long ago. doesn't seem like it's been that long) and the kids didn't understand. I took the kids into the ICU to say goodbye to their great grandfather. Not sure if that was a good decision or not.

Anyhow, a death around the holidays will make for a lot of emotional ups and downs.
 
I am sorry to hear this! Hugs! I wish him a peaceful voyage to his final resting place.

There can be no time of year that is ok to lose a loved one, but this time of year is the absolute worst as a few of us can attest to. I have to cling to the firm belief that when we lose the ones we love the most, they only leave us to go to a much better place. I also cling to the belief that my nearest and dearest have a bar stool with my name on it right next to them.

I''m sorry for your loss. Your grandpa has my thoughts of peace. I said those thoughts of peace outloud looking at a photo of my late grandfather (his photo is on my desk and I can see it as I type). There are lots and lots of grandpas out there to give your grandpa peace too.
 
Thank you so much Octavia, Gailey and MC. For me, my grandfather was the father of my heart. I swear the ground shifted beneath my feet when he passed, even though we knew it was coming. Your kind thoughts and support and very much appreciated.

MC, not good or bad, it just is. My family never really let me see grief or bad sickness and tried to shield me. On the one hand it was good, on the other-- it left me unprepared. Don''t overthink your decison-- I don''t think there is a ''perfect'' answer. It is hard around the holidays especially, but on the plus side it is a time for family togetherness so there are plenty of opportunities to share sorrow and find strength in one and other-- not to mention lots of activity to distract. Take much care.

Well said Gailey. I would like to add that my heart is with you MC and Layla. Prayers for comfort and peace as you heal from your loss.

I lost one dear Grandfather at Thanksgiving and another at Christmas many years ago. Time heals the pain, but you never forget the love you shared with your precious Grandfather. I''m sure that they are all together enjoying each other''s company.
