semi-mount questions

not sure if this is the right forum to post this question, but here goes

Is it possible to change the head - I think that''s what it''s called - so that it would accomidate an oval or a cushion?

I have also seem semi-mounts where there is no head. Does that mean you can get a head for any shape stone?
