Semi mount help needed please!

Hi to everbody from a newbie with a generalised question about semi mounts.
I have a solitaire diamond ring which I decided to reset in white gold. Because it is not the best of diamonds I didn't want to take it to a jeweller, so yesterday I ordered a setting from beyondjewelry3.
My worry is that I measured the stone with a ruler (not too clever I know!) and ordered a tiffany 4 prong setting for a 6mm stone. On checking my ring I have since noticed that the ring is stamped 1ct & on measuring again I think it is probably at least 6.5mms. My old eyesight is obviously unreliable! So please forgive my ignorance, but have I made a big mistake or can these settings tolerate a slightly bigger stone? I live in the UK so am hoping I won't have to return it to China!

There would be a setting for a 6.5mm stone. I'd probably just try to sell the first setting and order another one the right size. How were you going to have the diamond set without taking the stone to a jeweler?

Hi & thanks for your reply. I have a local jeweller who will set the stone for me. He has done some work for me before, re-sizing rings etc. I did ask him some time ago about resetting another ring & to be honest the prices he quoted where frightening! As this poor diamond is not great I thought I could save some money by ordering a ready made setting online. Just wish I had measured properly!!!
