Any advice for how to go about selling my engagement ring? So far I have only been able to get in touch with diamond dealers, most of whom are offering one half or less than the appraised value. Thank you!!
Recently I bought a pair of earrings from Bluenile for about $1400.
Along with the shipment came an appraisal for about $2400.
Now, you tell me, what are they REALLY worth? (I suspect $700)
Next question: WHOM are they worth that much TO? The end user, or someone who will resell them to an end user?
If they are sold to a reseller that person should make some money, right?
This ain't charity.
And I'm not even talking about what they should be insured for, yet another can of worms.
This is why diamonds are a horrid investment.
We end users buy at retail but have to sell at wholesale.
What other "investment" looses half it's value the moment you buy it?
Perhaps a Steinway Piano.
You''re being offered half of appraisal price (which is likely more than half of what was paid for the ring)?
I don''t really think you''re going to get more than that! You can try to sell it to a consumer yourself, but it''s hard to say how long it would take to find someone to buy it. Most people aren''t excited about having a "used" e-ring
you can do a search here on selling a diamond or selling a ring and a bunch of threads will pop up. unfortuately kenny is right. you'll be lucky to get 1/3 of what you PAID, not what it was appraised for. Back to selling it, you can try consignment with a local jeweler. somethings you'll get a little more.i have also heard of Selljewelry.com you might give them a try. Some people find success running a add in your local paper. Some jewelers will take it as a trade towards something else and you might get a little more value that way.
