Hello,

I hope I am posting this in the right place. My boyfriend and I purchased an engagement ring back in October 2008 and since then have realized we are just friends (he never did pop the question). Through our break-up agreement, I ended up with the ring. However, I have no idea what to do with it!
Is there any chance I can sell it for a reasonable amount?
Please let me know what you think it may be worth.

It is a Canadian diamond, AGS000 H&A
carat: 1.06
clarity: VS1
color: G

It is mounted in a platinum tiffany style knife edge setting.

I can get more specific specs if needed.

Thanks :)

Hi Lemony

Your best bet might be to try consignment with someone like www.pearlmansjewelers.com , consignment works on commission so the company takes a certain amount if a sale results.

Usually you can only expect to recoup 30 - 50% of the purchase price, it sounds like a nice diamond so hopefully you will have luck selling it.

Alternatively you could try selling it privately as you might get a bit more money for it, or if money isn't an issue you could reset it as a pendant?

Also this article might be very useful to you.

Lastly if you had an independant appraisal done on the diamond an appraiser could give you a suitable sum you could try to sell for, here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

Some people have had good luck selling on diamondbistro.com. It may be worth a try, because the consignment deals will take quite a bit of your "profit."

Alternatively- what about making it into a lovely pendant??

I will do a link and have a nose around Ice!

Sounds like you have a gorgeous ring, well cut diamond (great color and clarity spec) and a modern looking ring. With a substantial loss from reselling, I would rather keep the ring and wear it as is, or save it for later to reset in another gorgeous setting or a pendant. I shall reset my old ering in a pendant. The simple and elegant look of a solitaire in a benzle setting that most people are getting now may be a good choice.
