I am trying to sell a 2.03 Carat, F, VS1 AGS0 round diamond (see pic below). The band is a platinum, custom double band from Brian Gavin Diamonds. It's a sparkler, and absolutely stunning. I paid around $45k for it just a couple years ago. It doesn't look like we can get that amount now, but we've decided to sell anyways.

Any ideas on the best places to sell? I was going to list on Craigslist and also hear that selling at a Consignment location might fetch the highest price. Any recommendations for consignment shops? I was checking out places like Diamondbistro but didn't see a lot of pieces selling for $20k +...

As far as pricing, I did a quick search for comparables on Pricescope and getting around $36k. I'm sure I'd need to sell at a bit below retail, but would add extra for the setting. Hasn't been appraised. Do I need one? Have the AGS certificate in hand. Any thoughts on pricing appreciated!

Any advice is appreciated!

Please don't do Craigs List. It's not safe!!!!

Jewels By Grace is s great place.

Um, I'd have to echo Mayk's sentiment. Craigslist for a high ticket item is the quickest way for an untimely demise.

I'd look into consigning with a vendor who has a lot of foot traffic and high ticket inventory that moves quickly as your ring would sell quite a bit faster.

Thank you both! I'll check out Jewels by Grace. I sadly know very little about jewelry vendors. Are there other ones I should look at for consignment? Which are the popular ones?

One of my concerns, especially with any online vendors, is shipping such a high value item to them. I'm not talking about shipping insurance, but since the diamond is leaving my sight. Are there any precautions I should take? I'd have to go with a reputable jeweler but wondering if anyone has any tips?

Yeah maybe I shouldn't sell on Craigslist. Before, I was just thinking of listing it on there to test pricing.

Have you talked to Brian about it?

I am sorry but the data on the AGS-report are difficult to read. Could you write those out, even if this is an old-type AGS-report.

Did you say you bought this diamond from BGD? If so, did you already check their buyback-policy, and even if that would not be valid anymore, did you ask them what they would pay you? After all, the vendor having sold you this diamond knows that stone best.

Live long,

Sure. Here is the data. I've also attached the Sarin report.

Measurements: 8.10 - 8.13 x 5.02mm
Cut Grade: AGS Ideal 0
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Proportions: Ideal
Color Grade: AGS 1.0 (F)
Clarity Grade: AGS 2 (VS1)
Carat Weight: 2.030 cats

Total Depth: 61.9%
Crown Angle: 34.6 Degrees
Table Size: 56%
Pavilion Angle: 40.8 Degrees

I've asked BGD about any sort of buyback program, but there's nothing available unfortunately. I had this diamond brought in from another vendor, and Brian examined it, and created the setting for me.

Re: Selling Advice: Consignment Stores? 2.03 Carat F VS1 AGS

I used Jewels by Grace to consign my 4 carat antique cushion and I had no worries. Her insurance covers goods consigned to her, as that was my concern as well.

Look around but really, I'd look at vendors who have a lot of traffic to their online stores and sell a lot of high ticket items as the goods will sell faster than say a store with low traffic and smaller priced items KWIM?

Good Old Gold would be a good place to look at too, Jewels by Grace, and perhaps even utilization of an appraiser as a 3rd party go-between if you want to try to sell it yourself. But, most people are not going to want to give that large of a sum to a private seller, they'd rather go to a reputable source. Usually what one needs is the GIA or AGS cert, as that's what buyers are really looking for.

Love Affair Diamonds also handles consignments now. If I were you, I'd go with them or Grace.

Sure will do.

Thanks everyone for the input! I'll check out those consignments shops - Jewels by Grace, Love Affair Diamonds, and Good Old Gold.

Hi Travelist,
I may be interested (thousand thanks Rockyracoon for the heads up :wink2:)
How do you think we can discuss further on the stone ?
Thanks.

A reminder that we don't allow sales or promotion of an item outside of preloved. If you want to sell an item, or contact someone about selling, please do it there.

Re: Selling Advice: Consignment Stores? 2.03 Carat F VS1 AGS

If you want to sell it yourself and pay no commission fees then try loupe troop and put a link to your LT ad in here in the preloved section where people sell things. Diamond Bistro same idea. Be prepared for people to negotiate with you on price ie haggle.

If you cannot handle people haggling or either meeting someone to sell the item or posting it then I would suggest Jewels by Grace or Love Affair Diamonds as well.
