Madelise, I SWEAR you and I are the same person!!! Every hear I would get the XH similar practical things (it was the only time his boxers every got replaced) and he was always so happy. I was like, Honey, why don't you just go down to Macy's and buy YOURSELF some boxer shorts during the year? But no...!

cus if they did go replace their hole-y undies, WHAT WOULD WE BUY THEM? They're thinking of us. SO's darn undershirts will have holes all over them, and be discolored, but he'll still insist that they're fine because they're worn underneath clothing, so no one can see them. UHM.. I SEE THEM. Who cares what strangers think of your clothes, how about focusing on keeping me attracted to you! LOL! Speaking of which, I think this year will be a big boxer year. I'm sick of SO's stupid print boxers with Homer Simpson carrying a box of Valentine's chocolates printed right on the behind.

I was thinking this exactly. Or other donations like "buying" animals to be given to families in certain countries, or international micro-enterprise loan organizations, or would these be considered not celebrating his daughter enough and he really wants to give YOU something?

Do you like Coffee? If so, a burr grinder is great. I use mine everyday. Also, I love to make lattes-so I have a Bodum french coffee press, and Bodum manual milk frother.

Do you travel with your dog much? (I assume it's your dog in your avatar). I went to a thirty-one party at a neighbor's house (mainly out of obligation as she's a friend). I hate going to these parties as I always feel obligated to buy something, and rarely find anything I want. But this time I bought this GREAT utility tote to cart my dogs' stuff around when I travel. This thing is great! Room for blanket, bowls, food,treats, etc in the main compartment, then all these great little outside pouches for brushes,combs, water bottle, poop bags, and more. I LOVE this thing-use it all the time!! I'm including a pic for you to see- lots of color options.

Also for traveling- small hair dryer, make-up bags, jewelry roll etc.

How about some of those collapsible compartments to put in the trunk of your car so things don't roll around. they velcro to the bottom of the trunk and keep thing organized. I bought mine at Target.

I also second the recommendation of the throw blankets from Restoration Hardware. I have LOTS of throw blankets, but everyone fights over this one. We keep it at our coastal home and anyone that comes wants to curl up in it. Even the dogs fight over it- LOL. Picture is from today on a cold morning.

I WISH the donation idea would fly, but trust me, it won't. I would gladly give up any Christmas money to the Anti Cruelty Society or PAWS, but that's just not the way my family works.

The Demon and his crazy brother Oscar currently reside with my EH (although I see them whenever I'm in Chicago every few weeks), but I think the doggy travel bag is a great idea. And those blankets are growing on me in a big big way!

Something I just remembered as my sister and I were talking about this. How about getting all your family photos when you were little and growing up, etc. scanned and digitized that you can later gets prints or make photo books. My nephew is doing this for us and my sister and I each will have online access to the photos, as well on dvd, that we can either make into personalized photo albums or photo books.

Re: cordless vacuum - love our Electrolux Ergorapido from Costco. #1 costco return policy rocks #2 the Ergorapido is a long stick vacuum with a built in hand vacuum that you can pop out. #3 it's survived a year of two super sheddy dogs and still "sucks" as much as it did new.

I like the bottle of wine idea. I'm curious though, what's the difference between your father getting it at the store and having it shipped and ordering from Amazon? You're going to be unpacking and throwing away shipment boxes either way and Amazon uses so much excess packing. The wine shops at least in my area do a much nicer job.

Annette and Haven, great minds! I thought of this the other day when I was getting ready in the morning, but unfortunately I have about half of a bottle of the only perfume I wear (I’m a one trick pony!) and it lasts FOREVER.

Webdiva, that’s a good suggestion! I actually bought a cordless vac from Bed, Bath and Beyond when I first moved into my apartment in September and took it back after the first use because the thing had virtually no suction at all!

Soocool… not sure how to write this out without making it sound like I was raised by wolves… but I would be hard pressed to come up with many (translation: virtually ANY) photos from my childhood. We are an odd lot… I love the idea though.

No problem, I’ve got a gas stove! How to get the flame from the stove to the candle wick though? A paper towel, of course! Do you know how fast a little strip of paper towel burns? Yah, well, now I do too. And who needs eyebrows anyway? (OK, not quite that bad, but let’s just say I was a little *surprised* by the quick flare up – YIKES.) Apparently I can’t be trusted with fire…

I was asking why you didn't want your father wrapping and shipping the wine himself if that is what he prefers. I guess, unless he's a bad packer and the wine bottle would more probably end up arriving broken and spilling out wine, I don't understand why you would care.

AmeliaG, I’m sorry, I read it differently. For some reason I was thinking you wondered why my dad wouldn’t just order online and have it sent directly to me. But I’m fine with him buying wine and packing it himself. Actually, he’s a GREAT packer. Or should I say… OVER packer! I’m pretty confident anything he packed up and shipped to me would arrive in one piece.
