I found this stone on PS''s diamond search. I ran it through the cut adviser, and it had great results, but I know that is more of a "weed out" tool than a tool to select a diamond.

http://byo.diamond.com/create_your_own/ring/stones.php?stone=207706

I''m thinking about purchasing it, but the price seems slightly cheaper than comparable stones I''ve looked at, so I''m wondering if there are any problems.

I''m a novice, but I thought some of the posters here may be able to offer some input based on the stone''s report. I''m not sure if the website offers Ideal-scope images, etc. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

I''m not what you would call an expert yet, but from the cheat sheet that I''ve gotten from others, this stone looks great to me. Here is the cheat sheet:

Table: 54-57%
Depth: 60-62%
Crown: 34-35 deg
Pavilion: 40.6-41.0 deg

I''m not sure why it only got a cut grade of VG, but some of the true experts will be along to help out I''m sure.

I don''t understand why it''s only got a cut grade of very good? Using the HCA it seems to fall within GIA ex territory, maybe there is a mistake on the cert, possibly the cut grade listed or the numbers are printed incorrectly? I am sure that mistakes do occur occasionally.

Can you get an IS image for this stone, it certainly looks promising. Also, maybe you could check the GIA website for cert confirmation?

Welcome!

This looks as if it could be a good looking diamond and worth consideration, as to the cut grade, it is possible the girdle measurement disqualifies it from the Excellent cut grade, at slightly thick to thick. To the best of my knowledge, this vendor doesn't offer Idealscope images, and I don't think their diamonds are in house, is this the first diamond you have seen?

I don''t think I can get an IS image. I didn''t consider the thickness as possibly taking it out of the GIA ''excellent'' range -- could that explain the price difference from comparable stones? How does thickness affect a stone''s performance?

This isn''t the first stone I''ve looked at, it just stood out because it has the characteristics I''m looking for and is about $1000-1500 cheaper than similar stones.

Thanks to all for the help!

Unless diamond.com has a trade up policy I would buy that stone through Engagement Rings Direct (slightly less money too).

"EngagementRingsDirect will offer you a full lifetime trade up for the full value of the purchase. Your new purchase will have to have a minimum added value of 35%. "

I would think the girdle is fine in this case, as the crown and pavilion angles are in a good range - I wouldn't worry too much. An overly thick girdle such as thick to extremely thick for example can waste and hide precious carat weight where you can't see it. But slightly thick to thick along with the angles in this case shouldn't be a problem.
