Hello,
I am currently looking to buy an OVAL GIA stone. 1.70-2 carat range.
I like a nice 1:38 ratio - gives a really nice finger appearance. figured looking around 1.80 or so would be ideal so I am not losing to much depth. I think I was looking at roughly a 9.8 x 7.0
I am pretty picky..
Looking at D,E,F possible G? (haven't seen a g, and wasn't happy with the H's I seen)
Looking at VS2 or better - haven't really been happy visually looking at si1's in the past.
no fluorescence [some are saying faint is fine but I wanted to avoid any possible glow)
Looking for excellent polish, and excellent symmetry. most are telling me VG would be fine though. what are your thoughts?
So far I have experience purchasing a round - with my brother. We purchased a 1.38 triple x gia vs2 and very happy with the purchase. I feel like I am semi educated on paper, but I feel like when you think you know, you actually have no idea. I have seen milky diamonds, diamonds that look great on paper but eh in person.
The diamond dealer we used the first time really rubbed my brother the wrong way and I am not sure if I want to go back, he wasn't a bad guy but he really wasn't showing us what we really wanted to see and not sure if he is going to do the same thing with me. He basically made it like he is barely making money and we are being to picky. that you cant tell the difference etc.. I just don't think he is as anal and attentive as I believe I am.
Every time I visit the diamond district in NYC I am pretty aggravated with the service and I'm really looking for advice.
Do you guys think purchasing an oval online is smart ?
Things I am worrying about.
bowtie effect
am I chosing the right ratio?
am I looking for a perfect stone on paper when its not really necessary?
Any suggestions ? someone to work with that will definitely guarantee his professional advice and have the same outlook as me.
