Hi All,

It’s our 10 year anniversary and my husband surprised me with an empty ring box :lol-2: I started off looking at thin (.5tcw) eternity bands to match my E-ring but am now looking for a 9-stone band in platinum. I’ve browsed James Allen, Whiteflash, IDJ and am pretty sure I want a u-prong in platinum. The question is, what size stones should I get? .8? .10? .12? I’d love to go super blingy since I’ll generally wear it on my right hand. 9 is meaningful to us but I am also considering 5 or 7 stone with larger stones. Prefer to stay around $2k with platinum and want full top down finger coverage for an eternity band look.

Here is my e-ring. It’s a 1.21 H&M’s ideal cut, F color, hand engraved ring with lots of intricate detailing. I wear a size 3 ring on my left hand and 3.5 on my right. Any suggestions are appreciated!

For your rhr, go as big as you can within your budget! As a stand alone ring, with your small size, you can get full coverage with a 5 stone of .20 or .25 each and it would look super blingy! There is currently a gorgeous preloved one for sale! Check it out!
ETA: the preloved is not platinum

You will probably be able to get the most for your money through IDJ. A while back I tried a 7stone with 10pt each and it was beautiful and below your budget, so you can likely go bigger. Have you tried some 5,7,9 stones in person? I would suggest that you start there.

I love the empty ring box gift idea!

I don't have anything to add, but I'm bookmarking this thread because you're my hand/ring twin (2.75/1.2ct) and I can't wait to see what you end up getting! :geek2:

I think you can go for .12pts 9 stone or maybe explore .15pts 7 stone! Keep us posted ;)

Thank you for your input! Now the search is on to find something within my budget!

I will need to check these sizes out! Thank you for the input!

Twinkie’s! I’d love to see your e-ring!

Twinsies. Darn autocorrect.

Ooh thank you for the very helpful response! Good to know what to expect, budget-wise. I have tried on a few but not in the exact specs that I’m looking for.

If you’re a size 2.75, stay under 20pts. Otherwise, you are likely to experience discomfort between your fingers.....
I’d imagine 10-15pts would be ideal.

Second @Matthews1127 - it is worth trying diamond bands to see if you like wearing these thick rings.
If it turns out that you (also) cannot stand more than 2 mm or so between fingers, then it should be possible to arrange nine diamonds on top of the finger only - eg. ºoºoºoºoº

thinking out loud

Thanks for the great advice, everyone! I’ve decided on a five-stone ring for comfort and to maximize diamond size. I’m now working with IDJ on a 1.5ctw u-prong in platinum. (It escalated quickly ) I’ve checked out several threads for IRL pictures but am always happy to see more! Also, any preferences for setting the diamonds low vs high?

Excellent idea! Hmm, just when I thought I made a decision...9 is meaningful to us but 5 would mean larger stones. Is there a name for this style so I can search for IRL pictures?

Here are pics of two bands from IDJ on my size 5.5-5.75 finger. The first is a 5 stone, 1 ctw (.20 ct each) u-prong, the second is a custom 7 stone, .84 ctw (.12 ct each) shared prong with the diamonds set as low as possible (I don't like the feeling of diamonds/prongs between my fingers). I think you will be very happy with IDJ. GL!

I don't think so.

You could try on two five stone bands stacked so that the diamonds are aligned this way & assume away one stone.

I’ve seen your rings while searching for inspiration! They’re beautiful and you wear them well. Lovely finger coverage with the .20 pointers. Can you feel the diamonds and prongs between your fingers with the 5-stone band? I was actually going to ask them to set the diamonds higher so it’s more prominent.

Thank you. I actually didn't keep the 5 stone band because I was looking for a band specifically to pair with my e-ring and found the u-prong to sit too high and the larger diamonds detracted from my e-ring. I had IDJ make the 7 stone shared prong band with .12 pointers. They had as a stock item 7 stone bands with .10 pointers, which I tried on in their shop, but wanted something just a bit larger but still low profile. But for a stand alone ring only, I think the 5 stone with .20 pointers is a great size. You will feel it more than a band with lower set, smaller diamonds, but some people aren't bothered by the feeling. Maybe try to find similar a cheap cz band to wear around for a couple days to see how you feel about it. GL and can't wait to see your new band!

@ItsMsPlease
If you really want 9 stones, perhaps you can do something like this?

Hubby took me to try on rings today to get an idea for size. My RH ring finger is size 4 in standard 2mm ring sizers. Stock was limited so we had to be creative.

This is a 7-stone with .20s. I think 5 .20s will provide full top coverage.

8777541C-4DC9-438A-88B9-764024AF3666.jpeg The top band is the 7-stone with .20s. The bottom band side stones are .30s.

Next up, the blue sapphires are apparently .25s but the dark color is throwing me off.

Lastly, the calipers hold .20, 25, and .30.

Once I decide on the ctw, I’ll either buy from Blue Nile or IDJ. Both are about $1k plus less than WF. Pricing wise, IDJ is about $350-$400 less than Blue Nile for the same carat size. BN’s stones will all be GIA certified ideal cut, F color. IDJ will be “PS” quality Ideal-excellent cut, F color. Those who have diamonds from either vendor, how do you feel about the diamond quality? Also, what size stones do you think work best for my RHR?

I like the .25 but not sure that would be comfortable for you as your ring size is small. Definitely not the 30 points. Have you tried on a ring with .25 stones?
I haven’t used either vendor but I would lean towards IDJ if it were me with that choice.

I have called BN before and was inquiring about .20pts eternity band and they said their stones are not GIA Certified. Maybe you can try calling them to verify it.

I think .25pts looks good on you!

Thank you! The band with blue sapphires has .25 sapphires. I’d try to get the band set as low as possible to have it wrap snuggly around my finger. Hopefully that’ll work, comfort wise.
